Don't Watch Dubstep-Specific Tutorials!

For a long time I have been stuck at the point where I sort of like how my songs sound, but I want them to sound a lot better. More professional. More lively. More like I want them to. I've been watching dubstep tutorial after dubstep tutorial, but I haven't seemed to find what my mixes were missing to make them sound good.
Until now.
I realized that everything I was watching was not truly helping at all, because it was only about dubstep and not music in general. If you only look for tutorials on mixing dubstep, you won't get anything useful. Look for mixing in general for these reasons,
1. It's universal. Mixing techniques are able to be used in any genre, not just edm. This will increase your overall musical knowledge for all music types.
2. More search results. If only one genre is looked for, not as many useful search results would come up than if you were to make a more general search.
3. It's more informative. I would DEFINITELY rather get my information from a music expert than a bedroom producer.
Basically what I learned from what I watched is that just about ALL of the mixing is done in the EQ. Make sure that everything is able to be heard well, and cut frequencies that interfere with other tracks. Boost freq's that are important in the sound, but not too much, or else you will muddy up your mix. Cut inaudible lows and harsh highs to prevent unnecessary sound from getting through.
The bottom line is, you will not learn much of you are only focused on one style of music, try a little bit of everything, and you just might learn things that are VERY useful in dubstep!
