Any opinions on NI Battery before I buy it?
Hey guys, whats up? I've been thinking about buying NI Battery lately, and was just curious what your thoughts on it were? Or maybe there are better alternatives? Is it good for someone that doesn't have any type of midi controller/drumset?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Check out Geist too. You can actually record samples straight into it instead of having to load them in through the browser.

Also check out xfer nerve.
Personally, I'm an NI fanboy and really like battery. Although I don't own the new version, Ido like what they have done with it. The onboard effects look great. Only downside I guess is that they got rid of more than half the samples.

I love Battery.
Version 4 has added some much needed improvements.
Poise is also worth a mention.

I'd check out Nerve and Geist before buying Battery, as the others have some nice features.

I didn't like Geist when I tried it.
It didn't seem as intuitive as Battery or Poise for eg.

Personally I find it pointless and a workflow killer, I feel a lot more at home with Ableton drum racks and instrument racking inside each pad. Battery to me is like a dumbed down version of Kontakt.

komplete user for a few years i always found battery to be totally worthless
Re: Any opinions on NI Battery before I buy it?
amazing, super quick drum design tool. No undo feature will have you crying like a child the first time you fuck up a multi-layered hit you've been working on for an hour and forgot to save.
for modern electronic music, the transient designer and compressor are incredibly helpful. That being said, I've "tried" Geist and Punch, both are at least as good or better.
If you're getting Komplete, use it and you'll be stoked. If you're not, then don't bother - get Geist.
Battery 4 doesn't have all of the acoustic kits B3 did, and many people don't like that. Really, Battery is some dumbed-down form of Kontakt. if you've got Kontakt, I'd use that - but it depends on your workflow really. If you're in Live, then the drum rack is surprisingly versatile - you can load multiple samples on one 'pad'.

I prefer to use logics esx24 because I use a sampler for each drum hit so I can process each separately and have is own arrange lane without the fuss of using multi outs and busses.
Battery is cool but I just like the simplicity of esx and I prefer to use external compression and what not.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. I ended up not being able to buy anything as ALL of my production gear was stolen this week.
Desktop, midi controller, speakers, headphones.. Everything.

Re: Any opinions on NI Battery before I buy it?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I know the person that did it. The trouble is, I found out through their boss that they just moved (back) out of the country.. Which would probably explain the need to steal stuff (Flight tickets aren't cheap haha). Wasn't someone I was a close friend with or anything, but a friend of a friend who came around a lot because of said friend. Someone saw his car near my house right around the time it happened, and he had a history of being pretty sketchy so it wouldn't surprise me.

Definitely don't find out where he is and hire a hitman on silk road.
