using Cdjs for the first time ever. Need advice.
So a few weeks ago I decided to finally set up my own night club and it happens this Friday. The venue i booked has 2 cdj 1000MK's, technic 1210s and a djm 800. I'm going to be using the cdjs myself for my set im playing but im nervous at the fact that i won't be using my laptop to dj with. I know i can buy timecodes to use but i want to learn to use cds with the cdjs. Thing that has me nervous is that i cant have preset cue points (don't care if thats cheating or not) which i usually do. Im just wondering how would i mix in two songs at the right time? For example if i wanted to double drop two songs how would i know where to start the second track to mix in with it? I know how to beatmatch fine thats not problem it's just not knowing where to cue in and out of

practice practice practice. learn your tunes inside and out and you wont need to use cue points. thats really all the advice your going to get. no one is going to tell you "drop this song at this point in this song for a double drop"

1. you don't know how to handle the gear you're playing on? don't play in front of a crowd.
2. most dance music is organised in 8 bar patterns. e.g. 16 bars intro, 64 bars main part, 16 bars interlude, 64 bars second main part, 8 bars fin. put on a tune and count: one-two-three-four, two-two-three-four, three-two-three-four... up til 8-2-3-4. start over. I guarantee that after each "eight-two-three-four", something will happen. once you understood the general (and pretty simplistic) concept behind dance music, double-dropping tunes will be easy. most dubstep tracks, especially the ones from about 2006 onwards, are really easy to figure out; VIVEK's tunes always tell you exactly what you have to do. easiest thing in the world. try doubledropping "Danger" with the second drop of "Kismet". easy as easy can be.
3. seriously. don't play on gear you can't handle. you'll make a fool out of yourself.
4. all this being said - I'm still shit at DJing.

just record the set and then put it on a cd. then just twist some knobs and press some buttons and no one will be the wiser.

i never really understood why people needed cue points, i just look at the waveforms and the beatgrid to see where to drop it if i know the tunes well enough
