fostex pm1 mk2 6.5" monitors. i would definately recommend them. they are great for the price, and dont have the hyped low mids/lows that the krk rp6's have.

I use two KRK Rokit 8's and the KRK 10s subwoofer and honestly for that price range the Rokit's are probably the best. The 8's are regular $250 each but you can probably find some good deals on Ebay, I got one of them for $170 brand new in the box. The KRK Rokit 6's are about $200 each so that might be better for you, up to you though. :4:

Its cool that you love your rokits but I strongly disagree that they are the best in the price range. Yamaha and Presonus both kick the shit out of rokits in the price range.

I use Equators D5s.

If you live in the US and arent running D5s you are missing out. Plain and simple. They have 8in monitors now if you need more bass. Really nothing in the price range (new) stands up to the Equator D series .

I am very happy with my Rokit 10-3's although I would not recommend any of the smaller rokits simply because the mid range sounds terrible on them.

What are 10-3s? But yes the rokits are a mess tbh. I owned rokit 6s for a few years...they are terrible for mixing really. They would make good DJ monitors.

Basically just a 3-way rokit monitor.

These have a much flatter response than the smaller ones, very happy with them.

They are a bit pricey but monitors in general are (I got 200 off the pair on newegg anyway so who am I to complain.)

They kind of changed my opinion on the rokit line.

Hrm...I'd have to listen to be convinced...because the rokit line (I've heard and worked on to some extent the 5s, 6s, and 8s) and they are really pretty shit IMO for how much they cost...but I'd be willing to give them a chance. KRK VXTs are a different story and I don't dislike KRK as a brand...but the hype around the rokit series is mostly undeserved IMO. A combo of clever marketing and product design with the yellow color has made them much more popular than they deserve.

The low mids are just disgusting, the low end is hyped, the highs are fatiguing...I couldn't believe the difference when I worked on other monitors in the price range. I'd really almost, almost recommend berhinger over the rokits TBH...

I just ordered bass traps/wedge foam/monitor pads. I will post an update of how they sound after I finish putting it all up.

I probably am not hearing them accurately because of this rectangle of a room. But yeah, the small rokits sound shit, distorted highs and mushy lows. These ones sound quite clear right now, but it could be my room fooling me.

My experience is rooms usually make monitors sound worse, so you might have a winner. I can agree with your estimation of the rest of the rokit series.

I use K&H O300's

For that price range I would go for Rokit 8's

I've got KRK RP6's and every time I go to start writing a song I regret buying them. There are much better monitors in that price range. I'm going to be picking up a pair of Adam A77X's soon.

Everyone's ears are different, it's not like that doesn't apply because we are talking about flat response.

Avoid Rockits, never heard them sound good to be honest. If you need something small, the yamaha msp5's have been amazing considering their compact design. They do a larger version in the 7s but I aint ever heard them.

I'm still rocking Dynaudio BM15s passive, which are still to big and too loud, but I love them.
I make music as Forsaken, you can DL all my unreleased (and a couple released) bits here.

^ those dynaudios are a BLAST to work on. yes big, yes loud, but still total quality.

ns10's w/ a hafler 250watt amp here. my fun-for-loud bx8's are dead, so i'm officially interested in the 8" equators. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....
