Blawan's techno stuff goes hard.

His early stuff was cool when you first heard it but just sounds like generic bass music "ooh I'm all future" crap after a few listens

Also Pariah was actually shit on his own

Really? Can't really think of much that Iddy sounded like when it was about whereas his new stuff sounds like x amount of other producers albeit gets mad props cus its so "analogue"/raw sounding.

Maybe im just biased vs the 4x4

You are. If he had just made iddy again and again for years he'd be beyond boring. Ooh look more shuffley garage influenced stuff with clunky sounds in it. How original.

This is so much more sonically interesting

His dj sets are really good now too.

Haha, that's exactly the opposite of what I thought. Really liked his old stuff, heard tunes like that "Why they hide they bodies" and at first I was like "hmmm..." then I was like "actually this "ooh I'm all future""

This. I do rate that "Tuesday's March" tune though.

Instead he tops the originality stakes by making warehouse bangers with distorted kicks and a vocal sample over and over.

Cluekid, Peverelist, pinch has played some of the best jungle sets i have heard

I thought that Blawan mixing skills at Dimensions were pretty wak... specially after hearing Surgeon

Yeah Pinch definitely can pull of the "I'm going to play jungle for a bit" thing

Didn't see Blawan at dimensions this year. Saw him at the start of the summer though and it was heavy as fuck inhuman machine techno

he's not as good a dj as Surgeon yeah but still.

His productions now don't for me class as generic techno. I mean they very much are techno but to pass them off as the same old warehouse techno to me implies that you probably have no ear for techno at all. One of my mates went to Berghain once and claimed it was no different that some of the bait as hell south west techno djs that are about. Not saying you're as bad as that Gareth but stuff like his Trade EP with Surgeon or Tuesdays March are fucking awesome sound wise and in terms of the general vibe.

Iddy does very little for me beyond have some cool rhythms. Sounds like the same old "I'm bored of dubstep now" UK shit from a few years back just done a lot better.

Also on topic for this thread.

These days Mala isn't a very great dj. Playing loads of old tunes, playing so much of his own stuff then wheeling it like 3 times. It's just not very exciting. I want to hear some stuff I haven't heard before. Also wheeling your own tunes that many times apart from being boring strikes me as a little arrogant. I still love his old tunes and hear some fresh stuff every so often that I like plus there's still some wicked deep medi stuff but if he's clashing with someone else I like or haven't seen before at a festival I'll probably see them instead.

I still really like Blawan, saw him last year and he smashed it.

Seeing Karenn on Thursday with Sunil Sharpe, very hyped for it! :h:

since blawan has started producing almost entirely 4x4 stuff he lost the most interesting aspect of his productions which was his sick sense of rhythm and groove. his bohla ep was class cos he still had it

and wolf m8 imo jungle is always good u dont need to be some sort of jungle wizardguru to play a good set

after hours of relentless 4x4, at 4/5 a.m i'd turn bmb down for joe bloggs playing one of my jungle playlists that i know back to front

Serisouly you would rather listen to some crusty hippy play a load of bait raga samples with half arsed chopped amens?

Shit jungle is just as predictable as the worst "I want to be Chris liberator" techno

wouldnt be bait jungle if it was one of my playlists

im talkin actual jungle not that wack stuff where someone's just thrown a few jah iries over some crappy amens and claims theyre making jungle

but tbh in the situation i mentioned id even choose to listen to some cheezy wildlife collective than any techno

We had a thread about this sort of thing before, like, what genre is the most standardly good, like, pretty much every tune is listenable, and quite a few people put jungle up there.
