Subfect - Pulse (Deep and tribal)

Post by subfect » Thu Oct 10, 2013 7:04 pm

I had a heap of fun with this one. The track has a clarity and crispness that I find very hard to achieve, and I think it's because I'm using more percussion that really makes the top end sparkle. Also very happy with the percussive and bass arrangement. I'm still a while off being considered "good" but getting there :)

Drums sound good but lack funk, you could do with some more shakers to make it rolling. The pad is nice if a bit simple. I'm not keen on the midrange bass, it sounds slightly woolly, could do with more crunch to make it cut through the mix. Good effort but not for me, sorry man.

Hey there Subfekt, nice job. I think you can benefit a lot from shaving some freq's off your synth to carve around the snare and other elements.

Also I'd throw a filter on the kick and adjust to taste. Are you using Vengeance packs?

I think one of the kicks is from vengeance, yeah.

Which synth are you referring to? The mids?

@dustwyrm - I don't mind wool (I think I know what you're referring to), but more grit is always welcome hehe

Nothing wrong with Vengeance, most guys use them. But gotta be careful which samples you're using, and I almost never use a raw Vengeance kick without a filter of some sort. They highly layered samples so you must remove any clashing frequencies that aren't needed. That's all really. Just getting it to sound cleaner.

Yea the synth I mean the mids. Carve some little notches for the snare to punch thru, shave some hi end notches for your hats, widen the hats, lightly high pass the synth to remove unneeded low end to allow the kick and sub to breathe.

Really liking the feel of this track, Subfect!
I always appreciate some good tribal percussion, and you've really brought together a nice atmosphere with them.
I love the slight quick mid growls here and there.
What I would personally do, is have more of a constant subb rolling throughout the tune. Just a simple low end subb. Really would fill everything out. I feel without that, it seems too flat.
Really good tune though :)

will work on that - thanks man. Have updated the mids a bit - they're a bit more gritty/agressive now :)
