in reponse to op: i use sub b2b good headphones. mainly just good headphones cos my other speakres are average and i cant afford good ones. sub is always interesting just to hear how ur tune is gonna sound on different speakres but id never produce a whole song with it cos mine is also average

I have two KRK 10-3 monitors and a shitload of sound foam and bass traps in every corner.
These things go low enough and are powerful enough that I would never need a subwoofer, it really depends on your setup.
In a smaller room a subwoofer might actually make things worse.
Get some acoustic foam up, the difference is astounding.
definitely look into room treatment before a sub. also consider a subpac. i did a video review of it if you're curious. having owned one for a few months now i can honestly stand by it as a viable alternative to a sub. that being said, i'd obviously rather be mixing in a $100k treated room but for a bedroom setup the subpac has been mint so far.

45hz isn't even that low, I could show you a heap of great tunes with bass reaching all the way down to 30hz. So many classic dubstep tracks hit at 41hz (E) for example:
It's pretty standard for modern hip hop tracks to hit below that, like this 38hz destroyer:
In Breakage - Rain the lowest sub hits at 32hz and on a good system it's clear and solid as can be:
So yeah, you're kind of talking out of your ass there mate.

A lot of subs do see significant drop-off at 37hz, I know my car sub sounds lovely on D# but then gets pretty weak at D. Not every tune is the same though, like in Rain, Breakage somehow gets a 32hz note sounding clear and solid on any decent system. In the end though every subwoofer has different specs, and some that say they can go down to 30hz actually drop off at about 45hz and are barely audible down there, meanwhile others say 37hz but they actually stay strong all the way down and don't becoming inaudible until they're below 30.
meh the lowest bass on rain sounds like bait rumbling to me and my cans are pretty decent

yep, i do both.. but i would sugest getting a sub more or less for the value it gives to your music experience in general, for listening, for mixing/djing, for studio work.
it's defnitely made me think a lot more about my bottom end, because i can properly understand what's going on down there with a sub.
it's certainly not essential, but it's something you won't regret.
