The Conquering Lion of Judah is an important symbol in most dubstep videos, to establish the sounds connection to Jamaica, its place of origin. The image of the majestic lion resonates strongly with most "dub-steppers", the majority of which are devout rastafarians. The dub-step motto, "music without bass is like life without love, you just can't feel it, seen", is also usually referenced somehow in most dub-step music videos.

Something I've never understood is the level of questioning "burial rip-offs" get compared to others. If you think all these dungeon producers didn't hear One Of Us and think "I wanna make that", you're mistaken. If you think bare producers in the 130 thread aren't just recreating Big Shot, DJ XTC and Youngstar tunes, you're mistaken. If you think Boddika didn't hear Underground Resistance and think he should make that, you're mistaken.

Yeah, people call them on it occasionally, but drop some vinyl crackle or a pitched rnb vocal in your tune, and you get bare bods on here saying you're a rip-off.

If people only want entirely original artists in their collection, well, it's gonna be a very small collection.

but in this case volar flex doesn't sound like a unoriginal tune the way some of those ones. Like using the same sort of bass as big shot or whatever. Literally every element both sonically and in terms of the actual composition of the track sounds like it was done to copy Burial in some of his tracks.

Oh yeah, Volor Flex is a special case though. The guy literally says that his albums were a tribute to Burial. Weak argument, but I feel that almost makes him immune from these conversations. Like buying tickets to go and see The Smiths Indeed and moaning they've ripped off The Smiths. Especially on Volor Flex's first album, you can pick the tunes and be like "This tune is a cross of Wounded and Raver.

I haven't heard all the Lion Charge stuff but as far as I can tell it still seems to have a very strong dubstep flavour rather than just being straight up dub

I haven't heard all the Lion Charge stuff but as far as I can tell it still seems to have a very strong dubstep flavour rather than just being straight up dub

Pretty much this also I don't rate 001 that much and would rather have 002 in my collection.

agree on that one some of the lion charge tunes are okay but i think that white lavbel serieis of dub tunes bootlegged into dubstep was a lot more interesting (forgot its name, theres loads of em on discogs)

A good producer re-creating somones tunes with slight variations just seems like a waste of time & effort. That's the stuff you do first year producing.
