See, When I look at a year like 1993 as mentioned here and I try find a load of other non hip hop records to back up the strong hip hop releases that year I'll then find that I own a shitload of stuff that came out a year or two either side. Same with the late 70s. Same with some periods in the 80s or 60s or whatever.

I don't think I'm going to find a definitive year as there's loads I like in pretty much any year I pick from the last 50 years

EDIT: Aimed at direflow

Yeah but the point is I found a load of equally good if not better ones in 1994 and 1992 meaning I couldn't definitely say "oh yeah 93 was better" or whatever

Didn't realise that was 1979 as well... I never bothered with Joy Division until I watched the film 'Control' 2 years ago. Amazing album.

purely based on personal preferences (cause i honestly don't give a shit about the influence or importance of records), any year from 2006 onwards

Yeah late 90's - early 2000s, house, r&b, garage, drum n bass. It was all going off!

According to a former teacher of mine music ended when Brahms died in 1900 or whenever it was.

1931 was the best year for music because A Blumlein started developing stereo miking techniques and records.

I really don't like much hip hop from about 2001-2006. It maybe the fact that a lot of the albums that I've listened to from this era come from rappers who peaked in the 90s. Does anybody else feel this way?

Nah. MF Doom, Madlib, EL-P, Killer Mike, plenty of classics from Cam'ron and Dispet like I mentioned earlier, Brick Squad, Clipse and the Re-Up Series, Jeezy, Ghostface, 50's debut was great, Donuts, and of course Kanye. Probably a whole lot more that I'm not thinking of off the top of my head. Plenty of great releases in that time period.
