Pretty much my opinion on him TBH...Love Lockdown aside, as I've already mentioned.

Mos Def is the only good thing on college dropout.

tbf going back to 06-09 being a lowpoint for hip hop, Be was a decent album, when was that?

Nah, I'm with you. Good (but not great) first album, listenable but not purchase-worthy albums followed. He's just alright.

You do know that we can now listen to tunes NOT made in the UK too right?

Be was fucking boring.

Also it was mainly Kanye beats so you're being hypocritical here.

His rapping itself may not reach genius levels but his ability to craft songs and put together albums arguably is imo.

Surprised by Love Lockdown. I dunno, That doesn't really do much for me as a track.

kanye tbf was as dope as just blaze was back when it was all soul samples and nyc sounding rap in the charts - he made that dead prez bass track, two tracks on camerons o boy record that where crazy, loads of jayz's best bits - like the jazzy 'hova' track and most of the really great tracks on beanie sigels two first records. Then he opened his mouth and became completely irrelevant and in need of getting a bazooka like penis rammed down his throat :)

Production wise, it's the only truly innovative thing he's done IMO. Minimal Hip Hop, not the standard flip-a-soul-sample stuff.

Yeah but that doesn't in my eyes count for being genius. It makes him a good songwriter but to claim someone as a musical genius of the decade it would imply something a little more than that. He's definitely important and influential historically and deserves recognition for his place in music but I can't bring myself to call someone a genius if I don't see a lot of his music as standing out that much or having actually genuine weak moments
