Dilla did more for music than burial by a long long way
That's not even an argument or an attempt at disproving a point. That's just grapping at something to disagree with and if you noticed I didn't knock Dillas work in the slightest.
J Dilla changed things up big time imo. Sparked a whole new generation of beatmakers. Even Madlib is highly inspired by Dilla.
What was the change?
I'm not so sure we can give him all the credit with the mpc for example if you look at what other people used at the time.
I fail to see how it's that much more different from a lot of other amazing producers work that I've enjoyed, like Havoc, Notts, 88keys, Premo, or Hi-tek.
It's just a particular flavour, which again.. I enjoy very much.. not hating here.
There are a few reasons why Madlib (not even counting Quasimodo ) is a bit different from those other guys, I think. He has got to the point where he is like a human radio or something -people follow his work and then follow those artists. Ofcourse you can spot a sample or two through another producers work but really it is a bit different. He is not putting rap or mcing on most of his stuff anymore either.
I think I'd actually prefer Dilla over Madlib if I was forced to decide, so it's not that.
