They both essentially created new forms of music.

I might go on to add GNOD too, just for being the most relentlessly experimental outfit there is currently.
In a few years they've traveled through psyche/noise rock > space/krautrock > afrobeat > drone/noise > jazz > industrial > early hardcore/jungle & beyond.

While I love Sunn, thats not really true. They essentially started as an Earth tribute.

I knew someone would say that but still, they've gone above & beyond the early Earth stuff IMO, it's much more conceptual, realized and varied that Earth 2 etc.

Whilst again, genius is a bit much, if we're looking properly at 2003+ artists who have created new models of music and properly experimented, electronica-wise, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble would be up there for me. Noir jazz meets post rock with elements of breakcore/trip hop, perfect combo.
