Solaris (1972)

Never thought I'd say this but this one was on par with 2001 for me. Maybe even better.

So did I! I have my own (probably wrong) theory as to what it was about/the message, anyone care to share theirs?

The anomaly is whatever you want it to be it's a genie in a bottle
The movie is about the journey and risks
basically it's a cinematography wet dream,

Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room

Documentary about the fall of Enron and how they were all a bunch of crooked thieving greedy bastards. Had no idea they actually orchestrated and extended the rolling California blackouts to make themselves more money

solayris is just so amazing - those nature shots in the beginning wow.

Europa (von trier) is up there visually and has that dystopian tone aswell.

Loved it. The guy is clearly batshit crazy, but has a genuine love for what he's doing. Some of the scenes he films are unlike anything I've ever seen in nature documentaries before.

His last two haven't been on par with his former level. Too much half-assed symbolism that doesn't mean anything unless you're talking about his own mental state. He should probably take a break, take out whatever freudian clusterfuck has gotten into his head and come back with movies like Breaking the waves, Dogville, the idiots, europa, dancer in the dark... Those films are awesome. I probably won't like Nymphomaniac but I'll still go to the theater to see it... Intrigued by Shia Laboeuf in a properly disturbed plot & character.

Maybe you just don't like Danish/Scandinavian cinema ?

Which ones have you seen?
His films are very different. Like the idiots is sort of a comedy but about spastic behaviour - that someone like harmony korinne would have given his young wife up for just having that idea. Dancer in the dark is sort of a musical, breaking the waves is sort of a parody of a greek tragedy and so on. But yeah, definitely pretentious at times - but there's a purpose when it drags on - like breaking the waves has the most insane ending that is 'magnified' by how 'boring' it is until that point. It's not easy watching but it shouldn't be either.
I'd bet you would LOVE the kingdom (think akira coupled with the office and a fair bit of twin peaks, but better  ) and probably Europa because it's so incredibly shot.
In my oppinion, he is greatest living artist there is and the only one that can give Tarkovsky a run for his money :D .
His last two haven't been on par with his former level.
no doubt.

Really liked this one. Super high tension and thick atmosphere. The scares felt close to home in a way pretty much no horror stuff I've seen did. The plot was a bit basic in the end, and they do kinda spell everything out more than they should, but all in all this was damn good shit.

Nooo ronin i love scandivian film bergman is my idol forever.

And i have seeb a lot his films hubbie!. I. Didnt like dogville but was not bad but the second part was horrible, the antuchrist horrjble too... the kingdom is the comrdy of the actor that have to pretend that he is the boss of the company? I didnt like that one but the character of the actor was good. i had to turn off the idiots because i was really annoyed with the film...
Eeeemmm how wascalled that one that ends with the funeral and the bells on the heaven, that was his best imo.
