On my first time watching it, I should not notice so many mistakes in a film that cost the much.

Loved it. The guy is clearly batshit crazy, but has a genuine love for what he's doing. Some of the scenes he films are unlike anything I've ever seen in nature documentaries before.

The end is disturbing but yeah, he was mental.

And i have seeb a lot his films hubbie!. I. Didnt like dogville but was not bad but the second part was horrible, the antuchrist horrjble too... the kingdom is the comrdy of the actor that have to pretend that he is the boss of the company? I didnt like that one but the character of the actor was good. i had to turn off the idiots because i was really annoyed with the film...
Eeeemmm how wascalled that one that ends with the funeral and the bells on the heaven, that was his best imo.

Yeah Dogville and Mandalay were way too pretentious and so was the director or boss or whatever the international title is. That one was actually completely shit.
Breaking the waves is the one with the bells.

The kingdom is a tv series (riget) and not too serious.

You should still watch the idiots, it's all about what isn't acceptable behaviour and in that sence tries to provoke the audience but balances it off by having hilarious and feely moments.

There's still a whole lot of films he's done but I feel you've been unlucky in which ones. The first three of his films are one trilogy and so on, so it makes sence to see them in the orignal order.

Inside Job

Documentary charting the financial crisis and who was to blame. Some of the people interviewed come across as utter stnuc, particularly Frederic Mishkin who was paid $124k to basically lie about Iceland's financial stability in a report in 2006.

Dead or Alive -1st 10 minutes were incredible - I was like awwweee yeah this is gonna be great...
couldn't finish it...plot dissolve - I might have to watch this again - I could have lost my mind at the intermission or something...

Shiri & The Yellow Sea were just OK...

Bully - Started to watch - turned it off - it was disturbing me too much...
The casual nature of the kids contemplating murdering their friend was at once laughable and frightening...
I didn't like the programming effect it was having so I turned it off...

I Liked...

White Material - White coffee plantation owners face scrutiny during civil uprising...concept is well known, but this one goes deeper - the story structure is interesting.

Rust & Bone - hard - down on his luck guy - gets handed a kid - goes to live with sister
while trying to sort out his life - new style character studies - some unique/far reaching tribulations

Retro picks

Young Aphrodites - Black + White - primitive feel like a classical story being re-told in the 60's
...boheme - If you like Bergman or Bunuel you will like this...

Sante Sangre - Jodorowsy film, not as trippy as his usual - no - It's pretty darn trippy.
Is right in line as a Jodorowsky film.

Nights of Cabiria - Fellini - earlier title - girl from wrong side of tracks tries to make her way...
The story is ultimatley very dark...it pulls you up and down to the very end...and yet somehow...
you end up smiling just the same...it's like, an invitation to keep going.

Almost a very good horror movie with some atmospheric scenes and a great soundtrack but completely ruined by the inclusion of some corny as hell scenes that basically have the effect of going "YOU'RE WATCHING A MOVIE" when they happen .

I just found Sinister really annoying. Oh your son is having a contorted-in-box night terror, maybe you should move. Your daughter is drawing pictures of graphic murders, what about move. Really, really spooky shit happening in your home where your wife and children are... FUCKING MOVE THEN!

BM - you should watch The Yakuza Papers or at least the first in the series, Battles Without Honour and Humanity. It's "adapted from a series of newspaper articles, by journalist Kōichi Iiboshi, that were rewrites of a manuscript originally written by real-life yakuza, Kōzō Minō, while he was in prison" AND it's directed by the guy who did Battle Royal.
I'm only on the second in the series but it's bloody good stuff so far

Yeah it's brilliant - you really get to root for the one guy and hate the other, eventhough its just donkey kong ..

you have to watch all three for it to make the most sence, but the thing is... the only concept the three films have in common is the relationship between the two lead characters, but they don't have the same personas and the setting is completely different in each film. It's hard to describe but it gets very artistic and very ironic.
The last film and I hope this doesn't spoil it - rips off/ just uses another well known films' script but in doing that Miike, still manages to bring a genuine conclusion to the trilogy.

Absentia - Quality little indie horror flick with a very Lovecraftian feel to it. Also pretty damn original compared to most modern horror. Spooky/10.

Grabbers - Irish flick in the vein of Tremors with a bunch of drunk Irishmen (is there any other kind?) fighting off tentacled sea monsters. Worth a watch, even has the actor who played Jeff in Coupling filling in on the Kevin Bacon kind of role from Tremors.

Anyone got any descent indie or obscure modern horror titles recommendations that flew under most people's radar?
