i wonder if no degree is better than getting a shit degree

no degree sounds like a choice, a shit degree sounds like youre not hard working

It's what you make of it...someone with a 2:2 in Finger Painting (BA) has at least applied themselves for 3yrs. But conversely, they're less likely to get a foot in the door interview than someone with a double 1st in Business & Marketing, if you get me.

If it ever comes down to me having to look for another job, best believe that 2:2 is getting replaced with a 2:1 or better. Not like anyone is going to check. Granted, a double 1st in Industrial Chemistry might warrant some checking if you're applying to a pharmaceutical company, but a 2:1 in Business from a red brick University/Polytechnic like mine...not even worth the phone call to double check.

The 'important' subjects, yeah. Law, the sciences, economics...that sort of shit probably gets checked. The lesser stuff (not meaning to belittle certain subject choices, mind) probably less so.

And it's based on the University as well. Using the same example, I got a 2:2 in Business from Bournemouth. No part of that whatsoever is worth checking up on because it's not even worth lying about.
