Ableton Live Lite 8 Akai Professional Edition

Post by Supertux » Sun Nov 03, 2013 6:35 am

I just purchased an M-AUDIO midi controller, and it came with a copy of "Ableton Live Lite 8 Akai Professional Edition". What are the limitations of this Lite version?

I read that I can have Unlimited Instruments, Audio effects and MIDI effects per project, as well as project file saving.

What's the catch?

I'm pretty sure you have a limited number of audio, midi, and return tacks you can use. Idk about being able to use unlimited amounts of instruments, but I know that live lite doesn't come with any of it's own instruments and if you have a limited number of tracks you can use, you wouldn't be able to have inf. instruments. I know you are limited to the amount of scenes you can have in session view too, but I personally only use more than that when Dj'ing with ableton. So these are the limitations I can think of, some of them could be wrong as I've never heard of Live Lite "Professional"

After reading the link, you do have limited track amounts, you don't get all the plugins, and you don't get all the instruments.

So those are the only limitations? I have my own instruments (VSTs). I don't get how it could be this good of a deal, for free. There must be more to it? Like, a limited amount of automation lanes, etc.

It also gave me access to Ableton Live 9 Lite.

I believe it said unlimited automation lanes, a lot of the reason ableton is so expensive is because the stock instruments, plugins, and samples are really good. But you don't get all of those in lite.

Alright, Ableton Live 8 Lite seems like a complete package with all the essentials that I need :)

Thanks for clarifying this for me.

No problem, I'm also not sure if you can export your tracks. Which would definitely be a game breaker. But I could be wrong.
