Mouse on Mars have been releasing barmy electronic music since 1993, working with a wide range of labels that includes Ipecac, Thrill Jockey and, most recently, Monkeytown. In their 20 years as a group, they’ve built up one hell of a studio, which they put to full use taking up the Against the Clock challenge – manipulating and processing a banjo sample and adding synth, drums and a torrent of effects (some via the duo’s own iPod app) until it’s completely unrecognisable. You should’ve seen us watch them work, it was the living embodiment of O_O. Mouse on Mars’ latest album, WretchDubbed, is out now.

They missed it, the dragon(s) got away.
At the start of this session, I think they really had something, it just struck so hot, and so early. By the end, it was an utter mess. We all have those sessions, in fact, most of our sessions end that way, but we don't rate a film crew while driving the steaming ball of shit into the ground.

the idea of creating a unusual creative sample source during a 10 minute session takes an open mind.
