How do i create a mix with just a DAW?
I dont have any mixers or controllers and i wanna learn how to make a mix. What would be the best way to do this in a DAW (like blending outros and intros together and things like that)? Or would that be an improper way of making a mix? Im sure many of you guys know way more about this than i do and i could use some help.
Remix i did for a beatport competition - check it out and give it a vote if you're interested

You would just deal with each individual track as a sample.
Create the fades with EQ.

Its really that simple? Would it be the same thing if i wanted to do some mashups or something like that?

Well you would need to get your tempos right.Stargazer wrote:Its really that simple? Would it be the same thing if i wanted to do some mashups or something like that?

Just get Traktor!! Nuff said

Ableton Lite should be able to handle this, and the 'mixing' you've described IIRC.Stargazer wrote:Its really that simple? Would it be the same thing if i wanted to do some mashups or something like that?

Yo, why is no one selling traktor scratch (why no k in scratch?) on the used market?Echoi wrote:Just get Traktor!! Nuff said
The lowest level 2 deck is like 3 hundo US new, but no secondary market.
I'd like to pick up an older version, with older hardware for a couple of specific things, and can't find anything anywhere, whats the dealio?

I did this as well. Just upgraded the Traktor 3 to Pro, got a great deal all together.nowaysj wrote:Yo, why is no one selling traktor scratch (why no k in scratch?) on the used market?Echoi wrote:Just get Traktor!! Nuff said

Anyway, I made a mix in Logic one time. Was a total pain in the schlong imo.
But it's not complicated, just create two audio tracks, time stretch your selected tracks to a fixed tempo and automate parameters like level/hpf/lpf/eq's etc..
Pretty cool to see the anatomy of a mix in that Logic automation view btw.

Ableton has a cross-fader in session view. You assign one audio track as "A" and another as "B", and then you cross-fade between the two. Then drop EQ3 onto each track and whatever other effects you feel like using.

This for Ableton:
Select a master track tempo (aka 140bpm)
Basically you would create 2 channels
Put an EQ 3 on each channel
Insert a time warped track into the channel, Probably 140bpm but you can do tempo changes on the master if desired( YOu may need to watch some sort of youtube tutorial to do the warping properly)
Then place the second track into the second channel with the intro overlapping where you would want the mix to begin with the first track
Automate the EQ 3 (hi, mid, low) for both tracks and also automate volume if desired
Blend them together and cut out the first track when complete
Then when you put track #3 back in CHannel number 1 make sure you adjust the EQ 3 automation again
It can take a long time to make a mix but you can make deadly perfect mixes
There is nothing wrong about doing this in my opinion, as long as you aren't telling people you did it on turntables
Its still a mix that you constructed in the end
Once you are finished the mix you might want to throw a something like a mastering suite on the master channel to make sure volumes stay consistent throughout

I don't know shit about mixing either, does the "auto warp long audio files" do the trick in ableton when it comes to warping (timestreching w/e)?
Depth is a delusion, the deeper you look the less you see.
