Re: TV Licensing and the law (UK)
My mum loves Mrs. Browns Boys. I'd pay the 40p a day just to see her laugh once a week, tbh
Re: TV Licensing and the law (UK)
I always go home and think 'fuck me theres so many adverts on TV'.. then I actually see whats on TV.. Eastenders/X Factor/Big Brother/Jeremy Kyle/something on channel 4 about a guy with a cock growing under his armpit..
Gimmie the adverts back for fuck sake.

So do my parents. I think it's the first thing I've ever given them one of those looks about. It's awful, but at least they're not on heroin. Thanks Auntie.Laszlo wrote:My mum loves Mrs. Browns Boys. I'd pay the 40p a day just to see her laugh once a week, tbh

She appears in things to let people who have just tuned in know that they're watching something shit.m8son wrote:i dont even recognise her what does she do?

I honestly havn't seen her since men behaving badly, or jonathan creek, whichever was more recent

Re: TV Licensing and the law (UK)
Usually only see her when I come in and my parents are watching some utter shit bbc comedy/drama.
Re: TV Licensing and the law (UK)
I've never really given the show (Mrs Brown's Boys) enough time to judge it - if my mum's watching it it's probably shite. She's finished her education, bringing up kids and working life and now, in her twilight years, she just want to watch Poirot solve another one in the evenings. Fair do's, Mum. Fair do's

Re: TV Licensing and the law (UK)
I do think the BBC is toeing this government's (Tory) line without enough scrutiny, did you see the the coverage of the Conservatives conference against that of Labours or the LibDems who are also in Gov, although you might forget watching BBC news.magma wrote:Oh, come on... do you really think skipping the License payment is a political statement as you've tried to argue above or are you reaching to try and find anything to justify getting free entertainment?Pedro Sánchez wrote:magma wrote:Morons.Insults not needed for people with different opinions Mag, you know this.
I'm going to try not to insult you, but this really is the biggest crock of shit in the entire thread. The Beeb piss off the government just as much as they "spread rhetoric". Have you never seen an episode of Newsnight, Question Time or the Daily Politics? When the BBC start broadcasting the UK news instead of government rhetoric and they stop wasting money on management costs and bad programming, I may consider paying for the services I use provided by them but until that point they can go fuckaduck.
The amusing thing about the BBC is that it's hated by tight people from all walks of life. Conservative misers say it's a lefty paradise promoting socialism and liberalism; Progressives, Liberal and Lefty cheapskates say it's part of the establishment and acts against progression.
All of them say 40p/day is too expensive for 9 National TV channels filled with original content, 15 National radio stations and god knows how many local services. The eye-roll on offer within this smiley isn't nearly big enough.
As for the rest of my argument, it holds, They waste most of that fee on things that don't even contribute to the broadcasting quality that the end user sees and given that 40p/day is forced onto you even if you watch non-BBC channels goes to show that it's an outdated TV Tax. They are competing with the likes of ITV for lowest common denomination gash entertainment most of the time and if people are happy to pay for that, good for them, I'm not.
I support the BBC by the way of their DVD's I buy, probably spending more than the fee a year, I just refuse to pay for their TV tax.

If you're going to complain about the bbc's news coverage the bias worth getting worked up about is that it doesn't cover enough of some stories. I best loads of the people hating the BBC are the same people who think Russel Brand's rant on Newsnight was a good thing to hear on tv (despite it actually lacking any real direction at all) Half of you complaining about it spreading rhetoric probably think Alex Jones is a credible news source anyway.
Besides. Are you all going to delete all the essential mixes, breezeblock sessions, John Peel sessions or other radio one bits you have?
Also has anyone ever listened to Radio Four? Granted a lot of it is boring as hell in my eyes but you have to consider the large amount of stuff on there that wouldn't remotely ever see the light of day on a commercial radio station.

You don't need a TV License for listening to Radio mate, Analogue or Digital.wolf89 wrote:Besides. Are you all going to delete all the essential mixes, breezeblock sessions, John Peel sessions or other radio one bits you have?

From others that pay/have paid for the TV License but those that don't can still have free legal access to all BBC Radio contentwolf89 wrote:Where the fuck do you think they have the money for it from then?Pedro Sánchez wrote:You don't need a TV License for listening to Radio mate, Analogue or Digital.wolf89 wrote:Besides. Unless the point you were making was that... no license fee, no mixes which is still moot because had it been funded privately would not mean it couldn't have the same output.

Re: TV Licensing and the law (UK)
It's only free-to-all because nobody buys a Radio-Only License anymore and it wasn't worth the cash to administer a separate license for a few brassic Grandmas.
I'm going to start writing a list of BBC stuff I've enjoyed relatively recently (last year or so) and stop when I lose my train of thought... it's amazing how much we take for granted tbh.
- BBC News
- QI
- Question Time
- Horizon (seems unfair to only give this one line)
- The White Queen
- The World Cup/The FA Cup
- The 6 Nations
- Too many Nature shows to list. (Fuck it, I'll try: Planet Earth, Human Planet, Africa, Life, Frozen Planet, Big Cat Diaries, Earthflight)
- The Thick Of It
- People Just Do Nothing
- The Mitchell & Webb Show
- Have I Got News For You
- The Daily Politics/Sunday Politics
- The Andrew Marr Show
- Newsnight
- This Week
- Imagine (especially the System one
)
- Mock The Week
- The 'Comedy Feeds' Shorts
- Live at The Apollo
- Ambassadors
- Simon Schama's History of Britain and Future History of America
- Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain
- The History of Christianity
- Churches: How To Read Them
- Britain From Above
- Doctor Who
- Sherlock
- Lost Cities Of The Ancients
- Storyville docs on Diamond Thieves, Pussy Riot
- "Black Music" Documentary series on BBC Four (esp the doc on Public Enemy)
- A History of the World in 100 Objects
- Doc on The Cheapside Hoard
Actually, I've got to stop because it's home time but I'm still in free flow and that's not taking into account content I've got from the website or time spent listening to the radio.
But yeah, it's all completely throw away shit like Britain's Got Talent and Strictly Come Dancing on the Beeb isn't it? What a WASTE of my money!

Re: TV Licensing and the law (UK)
This is ridiculous. The BBC offers a service, it is not free to watch LIVE tv. TV services such as catch up TV use some implied defence or fair right under the copyright act 1988, i forgot which section, don't sue. Other on demand services are free such as iplayer. However, if you wish to watch LIVE tv, such as Briton's got homophobe. (forgive me, it use to be good), you have to pay, period.
If you can't afford the liencse thats ok, use these other free services. Don't try and be a clever dick about it, ooo i revoke implied right of access, haha don't make me laugh, you read one small subsection of a legislation and you think you're Lord Denning. Get out of here.

Re: TV Licensing and the law (UK)
Why not? If it because you 'Don't" want to pay. Then the BBC and their enforcement team should harass you all you they want, and hopefully come with a court summons one day. Then let's see you you 'don't' want to pay then, even if it's the small calms court.Pedro Sánchez wrote:I don't.nitz wrote: you have to pay, period.
