Amazing song by Feed Me & Tasha Baxter, nice vocals, great intro, great song overall. Any of you guys know how to make this squelchy growl? Sounds a lot like Kill the Noise

Hey guys just wanted to share some new growls I made. I made these using the same methods I have explained in previous posts (FM8 --> Distortion --> EQ automation) and the last few were just a reese I resampled after eq automation. It ended up having a nice vocal quality to it.

Here they are:

If you want specific details on a certain growl just ask.

Thank you:)
NEW SONG listen please:)

Haha thanks man. Truth is I have a three song EP coming out soon on a pretty big neuro label, just be patient and it will come;)

I totally appreciate your support though, thanks a lot!

At the moment it is half 12 in the UK and I have an English exam tomorrow morning so unfortunately I do not have the time to explain the patch at the moment but I assure you, as soon as I get home I will help.

Is there a particular sound that you would like details on?

Thanks:)
NEW SONG listen please:)

Photon dude, I'll say it again, this is amazing, pure gold! I'm going to be THAT guy here and ask about the first and second growl in the clip you posted, I really don't want to sound like a 12 year old kid but is there a chance you can go as detailed as possible explaining how that stuff is done?

I know you posted so many guides here but I still feel like even following the steps you say I don't get it even close to what that clip sounds like! I may be stupid, don't really know.

cheers man, keep up the good work and let us know when you release that ep, buying it for sure

I believe im sucking at EQ modulation, you seem to really nail that, but anyways if its possible a complete guide to making the first and second growls in that clip (of course there might be some tricks you dont want to reveal, understandable), but i'd just like to at least get that sharp "dwooow" that would be killer.

thanks a bunch photon, sick sounds

Not sure if i have posted this before but here you guys go. Soundcloud

its no masterpiece but there is some good growl content in there.

this growl was made with massive (AI and Chrome) > ohmicide > crazy exaggerated EQ > ohmicide > EQ for vowel effect > compression.

no real secret to this kind of sound....

Sounds alot like Massive that wobble and I would't be suprised if he used some of the Digital/Hybird wavetables in Massive. The best ones there are the:
A.I.
Melofant
Deep Throat
Flenders II (With Phase)

Though most of these oscillators need phase of bend -/+ on them to achieve that squelchy sound. Also since Feed Me also did Spor for a number of years he is very skilled with resampling and neuro basses so resampling is a good idea aswell, though not with distortion as distortion on this type of bass will make it lose that liquidy growl. The best thing to do its to load up some EQ's and put notches in them and automate them. Then resample on and on until you get some epic shit... Boom

Set up an oscillator with a synth, rompler etc. Modulate a formant filter in several different ways. Run that into a bitcrusher, lowpass, distortion and reverb. Bounce different versions and run them in samplers.

Bro out. :Q:

Made a few more pretty clean sounding growls. Still not skrilly though:(

If you like these or any of the previous growls I posted, be patient because I am working on an extremely long, in-depth tutorial. (Its probably going to take me weeks - I procrastinate a lot)

Soundcloud

Like Hookjunior said, there is not really any secret, just trial and error. I've been producing growls since I was twelve (shit ones mind) and every time I may try something new. A lot of the time it doesn't work, sometimes it does. When it does work however, you can add it to the list of successful growl enhancing techniques. Generally, after lots of experience, you will understand how to make a nice sounding growl 9/10 times using techniques you KNOW that work (from experience).

In the tutorial i'll give you a lots of pointers as well as an in depth look into the techniques I use and why they work. I'll give you a step by step guide of a sound that I end up making so you can see exactly how I do it. I'm still not perfectly happy with how a lot of my growls sound but I have had a few requests asking how I do it so I thought making one huge tutorial would be more beneficial than explaining the same thing to lots of different people.

I hope by making this tutorial I can help lots of people, as even though there is lots of good information out there, it is sometimes still hard to follow and get nice sounds. I honestly know the feeling; the amount of times I've searched for lots of different tips and tricks for sound design and ended up reading the same thing over and over again yet still unable to produce the sound I desired is many.

And while people can consistently explain their effects chain - saying use EQ automation, use this, use that - it often doesn't help as much as we would like to think. I think of sound design like a maths equation:

When you get something wrong along the way, you often don't know what you've done wrong until someone shows you.

Thank you all very much!:)

By the way Hook I'm loving your stuff, your growls sound sick also!:D

Don't have a clue who this guy is but I stumbled across this while searching for Skrillex Growls to analyse.

It is actually very very close imo and with a bit of distortion it could sound spot on

EDIT: okay what the hell I just listened to this again and it sounds terrible, must be my speakers

So after reading and dowloading this project from the Sub-midrange thread http://www.dubstepforum.com/forum/viewt ... 3&start=40 ( the sound and project was posted by another user)

I opened the project to see what i could do to change the sound or make something different. Long story short since this the second time writing this, I changed abletons saturator to the waveshaper setting and got a pretty cool deep throbing sound. I started to layer some notes on my keyboard and got these cool growlish sounds that you would nomrally get inside fm stuff. I then made a rack and basically duplicated the chain but slapped a pitch effect so it an octave down to give it more power and vocal goodness and came out pretty well!

That is it really :dunce: , thought it was pretty weird how it all went down, and it made this cool table scratch effect also :6: you can hear it at the end of my soundcloud link.

Now for pictures! If you want the project just say so or send me a p.m, you got to check it out!

Now heres the clip :corndance: First is the guys sub and then what I turned it into from the waveshaper and layering notes :W:

Question: Slightly unrelated though. What exactly did you guys include in your sample pack that you recently made? I know it hasn't been released yet. But there a few synths in here that I'm curious to hear solo'd so I can fully hear whats going on in terms of processing and modulation. Also. What do you mean by "exaggerated EQ" lol. Are you using multiple EQs? or just a shit ton of points in one?
