Exploration, Uniqueness, and Originality
Recently I have felt like my music is becoming too formulated. I feel like it has evolved a lot since Rise of the Angels and Refuge. Before I had any producing experience, I wasn't afraid to venture out and try new ideas, in fact that was all I did at that stage. Now, I feel as if I'm just trying to follow a recipe to get "the perfect song". After dwelling on this thought (as I always end up doing), I thought I needed to make my tracks carry more emotion in them.
Exploration is the way that artists find their style. Sitting and making the same thing over and over again doesn't help you to be adaptable and inventive. I know from experience that exploring can be scary because of the uncertainty that comes with it, but that's how you figure out what sounds amazing and what sounds... Not so good. Maybe try playing with effects and plugins to see what they do, then figure out how to use them in your tracks to enhance them.
Uniqueness is why tracks and artists gain popularity. Either that, or a song that is EXACTLY like every other song –EVER– and nobody wants that. Try to invent things that nobody else has done before. After all, that's what Skrillex did! His growl basses are the influence of many modern dubstep sounds. Creating your own special synths and basses can have a great effect on other people discovering you.
Originality is the result of both things mentioned above. Exploring and developing a unique sound as an artist makes you... you. Even if you don't get popular because other people don't like your music, you created it because YOU like it, and that's all that matters. That doesn't mean that if your music is poor quality that people don't like your style. Just always strive for improvement!
Well that's all for now, talk to you guys later!

Re: Exploration, Uniqueness, and Originality
Go somewhere else and preach, I'm tired of this argument.
Not every producer is a self indulgent artist who does things only because its what they want, some just seek to be entertainers who create the kind of music that other people want to hear and dance to.
Originality has ALWAYS been low on the list of priorities for electronic dance music. We come from a lineage of producers who made the same tracks over and over again with just a 4x4 808 kick under a 303. Hardly groundbreaking.

You don't want people to get confused by one of the many Capture Pt impersonation/fan accounts that are out there.

Exactly. That is why no one needs to make any new music. If all we want is an 808 under a 303, and people have already made that, we don't need to make anything else.Ocelots Revolver wrote:Go somewhere else and preach, I'm tired of this argument.

Am I supposed to have heard of Rise of the Angels and Refuge?

Not necessarily, I just used two of my songs as examples. I originally posted this on my website.fragments wrote:Am I supposed to have heard of Rise of the Angels and Refuge?

Re: Exploration, Uniqueness, and Originality
Fruity is good as a beginning program but ultimately fails because of its inferior sound engine .

Sometimes I resample my tracks into it though because it makes them sound warm and lo-fi.
