Re: Harmor or Massive or Harmless?
But op, if you really want a new synth, computer music is giving away the full version of rapture next month. I'd say just buy the next issue to get that and all the other synths they give out. That should keep you busy for a while.
Re: Harmor or Massive or Harmless?
Nah I think Zebra is more intuitive than Massive. The routing is laid out visually, all the voicing is right there on an oscillator instead of hidden away in a tab, and you only ever see the modules you're using. The init patch does have an oscillator added. Both synths are fairly cryptic if you have absolutely no clue what you're doing, but after a quick skim of the manual or a ten minute youtube video, I think Zebra is a lot easier to grasp.

Re: Harmor or Massive or Harmless?
You have to remember though, there are more tuts out there for massive than zebra. So I think on a whole, while massive might be more complex, it's easier to learn because there's more information readly available for it. As someone who needs to be shown how things work it's something like that that made it much easier for me to learn as opposed to reading the manual.
Re: Harmor or Massive or Harmless?
There's plenty of tuts for Zebra. Not as many "How to sound exactly like Skrillex" hand holding sessions, but chances are if you need that you're pretty helpless either way and it won't matter what you get.

Re: Harmor or Massive or Harmless?
Personally I'd go for Massive, it's a great synth. Easy to learn but it'll take a while to master.Donaldbeebi wrote:I played FL studio for few months and I suck at it, yeah, I'm a newbie, and I created a song, and I have seen some synthesizers that are popular, and I'm deciding to get one, they are Harmor, Massive and Harmless, I actually want to produce dubstep, electronic music, so guys, any suggestion on which one I should buy?

That's not the point, the point is that even if you wanted to, you couldn't. The guys production is a cut above the rest, only morons on this board knock his achievements.SunkLo wrote:Why the fuck would I wanna sound like Skrillex?Simulant wrote:Lets hear your Skrillex presets then, show us how it's done...SunkLo wrote:There's plenty of tuts for Zebra. Sure, most of those Youtube tutorials are awful, but don't knock people for following tutorials and trying to learn to make sounds they like.
Re: Harmor or Massive or Harmless?
This. Harmor is awesome when used in conjunction with other synths (like massive). SeamlessR knows his shit about resampling, seriously got check him out!mthrfnk wrote:
Harmor has the nice ability to resample stuff (check out SeamlessR's tutorials for an intro to this) .

I'm knocking people who only care about copycatting other producers and making shitty bangers. The people that need step by step paint by numbers tutorials. Thought I made that pretty clear. You're not too sharp my friend.Simulant wrote:That's not the point, the point is that even if you wanted to, you couldn't. For what it's worth, production encompasses more than just sound design. I think his tracks are pretty boring from a compositional standpoint so forgive me if I don't pay him the utmost respect as a producer. Even as a sound designer, it's essentially the same trick over and over. Once you learn the gist of how it's done it ceases to be impressive. I find it much more impressive when a producer puts together a palette of subtle textures that have character, not just trying to make an over-the-top wall of filth all the time. Yeah you can run a synth through a shitload of bitcrushers and formant filters and distortions and have it sound nothing like the original sound, but that doesn't make it good. It's just complexity for complexity's sake. And it usually just produces a lot of sonic mush. Which is great if you're rolling your tits off at your first rave and looking for the most extreme radical sensory overload ever dude. But it gets really old fast. His music is the equivalent of a girl who puts on way too much makeup and thinks she looks so hot, but doesn't actually have anything to say. Again, appealing to dumb bros, the rest of us, not so much.
Also as an addendum, the whole "you couldn't recreate it exactly so that's proof that he's a genius" argument is stupid. Skrillex himself probably couldn't recreate his own sounds if he heard them for the first time. It's a lot of trial an error until he gets something he likes, repeated ad nauseum until the end result.

Lol and we start with the petty insults. Ok, you're a loser who knocks other people's way of learning. You have nothing to show for all of your dumb comments on here. You are actually so retarded that you knock a world class producer, like you're somehow above them, when in fact you couldn't do what they do if you were given 10,000 years to do it.SunkLo wrote:I'm knocking people who only care about copycatting other producers and making shitty bangers. As for people trying to copycat artists they like, let them do it and shut the fuck up. Who are you to tell other people how to learn their craft? Or how to get inspired? Seriously, stop talking you boring tnuc, I could hardly make it through that boring attempt at a critique. Who the fuck do you think you are? Do you really believe that making awesome bass sounds just comes down to running a synth through distortion and bitcrushers? There's an art to it, but like I said - let's hear your attempts.

Re: Harmor or Massive or Harmless?
i like processing 3xosc for basses, it doesn't alias in the lower notes when doing bass but i agree it sounds like shit with high notes.mromgwtf wrote:wub wrote:Everything but no 3xosc, please. It has aliasing problems. When you play a higher note on it, it tries to synthesize harmonics that are higher than the sampling rate - and the digital-to-analog converter interprets them as subharmonics. Horrible synth. Well, actually it wouldn't be horrible if it didn't have that problem. But that is what makes it horrible.

Re: Harmor or Massive or Harmless?
If I'm a loser what does that make you? I mean since you don't have any tunes in your signature that means your opinion's invalid too right? The only opinion that matters is Skrillex's apparently since he's the pinnacle of music production skill. Am I on the right track here? Not sure if you're aware of this, but Skrillex isn't a god. I'm allowed to think he's a dong. I think you're a dong too if that makes you feel any better. Maybe you guys can do a collab album, Dongarang has a nice ring.Simulant wrote:Lol and we start with the petty insults. Ok, you're a loser who knocks other people's way of learning. I'm sorry if my criticism affects your ability to enjoy Skrillex tunes. Actually I'm incredibly sorry if you enjoy Skrillex tunes in the first place. I'm sorry if shitting on paint by numbers brosteppers hurts your feelings somehow. I don't know whether you're a paint by numbers brostepper yourself or your aunt mabel is a recovering paint by numbers brostepper or what, but you seem to be overly sensitive to this issue.
Just apply some cream on that glowing-red hurt butt of yours and add me to your foes list if my opinion bothers you that much.

Sad man... so let me get this straight, to all music production students. Only learn from artists that sunk low from dubstepforum thinks is cool. Right?SunkLo wrote:If I'm a loser what does that make you? I mean since you don't have any tunes in your signature that means your opinion's invalid too right? Keep filling the forum with hate for the successful producers if it makes you feel better about your life. I'll keep pointing out the flaws in your shitty logic.

Zebra would be the best option by a long way.

I really wish you could mate, you seem to be struggling pretty hard. You're trying to point out flaws in arguments I'm not even making.Simulant wrote:so let me get this straight
If you're a brand new producer trying to learn from other producers that's fine. But if you're some twat who follows the same step-by-step recipe every track you make, and all your shit is samples and presets you downloaded from the tutorial you watched, you're not a real producer. Learning how another producer does something is fine. Trying to create a perfect carbon copy of another producer and pass it off as your own is bullshit. Moreso if you're just copying the steps some guy laid out on youtube, that's a photocopy of a photocopy. The idea of a producer is someone who sculpts and shapes the sonic identity of a track. If you're just copying the flavour someone else invented so you can get a piece of their popularity, you're a hack; a cheap knockoff. You can misconstrue and deflect until the side of Skrillex' head grows in but it makes no difference.
The point I was making before you turned this into a big Skrillex debate was that Zebra's tutorials cater to people who want to pick up new tricks to experiment with. Not those who just want to recreate basses verbatim from popular songs.
