Polyphonic sound design

Post by Dizzo » Mon Dec 16, 2013 11:27 am

Ive really been working hard on trying to teach myself music theory lately which has naturally led me to using much more chords which means more polyphonic type sounds. Sounds like that are kinda hard to come by since it seams so many people are more interested in bass and leads. I personally am more interested in background chords, especially the more electronic sounding ones, even though real instrument are really good too. So pretty much in a nutshell - the type of polyphonic sound design that a lot of the monstercat artist's use for their intros.

Heres a sound that ive been working on lately...

The chords might not be on point but thats alright because im more interested in the sound itself.

I used All the osc in massive. Acid, Additivmix 2, and Saw 1 all going to a lowpass 2 filter with a bend+ on additivmix 2. Thats really the gist of it, other than that i had 4 voices, polyphonic (of course), small reverb and dimension expander to give it that distant background feel, and the 2nd and 3rd osc were up 1 octave.

So thats how i did this sound and i think with a little bit more experimentation it could be a fairly good poly sound. Does anybody else have any good polyphonic sounds that they could share? Or have any good pointers on how to get a good poly sound (like good waveforms and filters and stuff)? Once again i personally really like the monstercat sounds because the sounds lots of those artists are using for chords are seriously on point.
Remix i did for a beatport competition - check it out and give it a vote if you're interested
