Zeds Dead Bass Sounds (Shut Up And Sing)
Hey all,
Have searched around in the forums and hadn't seen anything on this sound yet, but perhaps some other producers use something similar and I could be pointed in the right direction. Regardless, would love your thoughts on how to create the incredible bass sounds in Zeds Dead's "Shut Up and Sing v2.0"
These guys have a really nice analog/organic sounding touch to everything they do, which I really enjoy. I'm referring specifically to the sounds that come in at 2:05 of the track below:
Soundcloud
Would love to know how to create that awesome metallic/distorted wobble sound... and if you have any thoughts on how to achieve that downward pitchbend/slide at the end (i.e. @ 2:10) that would be great. It almost sounds like a guitar in the way the bassline slides around so seamlessly. I've seen Zeds Dead tips before, but they are always on their low-end growls which I find a lot less interesting personally. Any help is appreciated!

Comb filtering and some distortion, thats all. I'm pretty sure you'll get better results on the pitch bends if you just do it with a sampler as opposed to within a synth. Sometimes working with the audio can make all the difference. You'll likely have to do some frequency splitting too in order to get it that way.

Well... a patch would be nice, but I'm much more interested in the process and trying to figure out what the heck they are doing. Distortion is thoroughly obvious, but could you talk more about comb filtering and the underlying sound? What waveform are we talking about (square?), or even what soft synth do you figure they are using?dca wrote:cheshirebeats wrote:Comb filtering and some distortion, thats all.

Ha, naturally, I was talking to cheshirebeats... it really is a nice sound, very sonically pleasing to me (would love to find a way to achieve something similar)dca wrote:i was being sarcastic, its not that easyudubstep wrote:Well... a patch would be nice, but I'm much more interested in the process and trying to figure out what the heck they are doing. massive has a comb filter. and distortion, but i personally don't like massive's distortion. squares could work. i would use that unison spread detuning thing as well. then you'll want to LFO various things to get the rhythm.
