Confused over tempo.

Most dubstep/bass DJ's jumped the 140 ship years ago. It's not uncommon these days for a good DJ to go from mid-120's to 180 within a 2 hour set, all while keeping the transitions smooth. Hunt around on Beatport for a while and you'll find plenty of trap songs at 160.

I guess I'm alone in this but throughout reading this thread so far, some people have mentioned poignant things and others just put a puzzled look on my face...

Like leg said, if a dj wants to play your track, he'll figure out a way. And with digital dj formats today, it's a piece of 'piss' as someone else put it...Most dj software today has integral pitch control as high as +/- 100 (as unnecessary as it is).

And honestly maybe b/c I'm an American I'm more exposed to this, but just about every dj/producer/artist/group I've seen live, doesn't have a set 'set' or direction in the context of bpm. I mean Bassnectar used to call his music, "Omni-tempo-maximalism" ...anyways, this dude went all over the place during his sets. I'm not weighing in on whether it's good/bad/right/wrong...I'm just sayin' it's been done before, still is, and if an artist is good at his craft, bpm isn't an issue.

right? I feel like I need some backup here from the vets as this thread makes me go argh

i been makin' lots of shit like that at 160.

if the people that get ur track are playin 140 sets then they might but probably won't play ur tune...give it to people playin 160 or who are more veratile and/or creative...or who don't give a fuck and know how to properly stop a track and start the next one.

whatever ends up a bein classified under the name 'trap,' i been makin that kinda stuff at a several different tempos....and it all sounds a though they are the same bpm...crazy, right?

Well it will be pretty hard to mix a 160 track with a 'bass music' set as the software/cdj probably wont even be able to pitch it down that much, and it will probably sound horrbly shit and slow if it is pitched down that much. but then whats wrong with it being mixed in with a juke/dnb/hip hop/trap set?

Regarding tempo -

Anyone who says it has to line up within strict bpm parameters either 1) doesn't know what they are talking about or 2) is a shit DJ.

In my sets I often range from 70-180 (plus many non beat-matchable tracks)... and I've been on Sub.FM for almost 5 years now. A good DJ chooses what they want to play, and THEN figures out how to do it.


Regarding the track -
