Red 2

Quite enjoyed the original, this was the same formula and not as good. Nice inclusion of Lee Byung-hun, been a fan of him since I saw The Good, The Bad & The Weird. Ultimately this brought nothing new to the table except some great scenes with Hopkins acting like a tnuc.

Image
Olympus Has Fallen

Stupidly excessive action film. Strong casting (Butler, Freeman, Eckhart) but the plot is fucking retarded and it's very America, Fuck Yeah!, particularly in the shot with a bullet ridden flag falling to the ground in slow motion. Basically a louder more violent Die Hard in the White House, dialogue and over the top violence had me properly laughing for most of the film.. Apparently White House Down is even worse, so might track down a copy of that for tonight.

Image
Star Trek Into Darkness

Enjoyed the first Star Trek reboot and enjoyed this. Someone had managed to completely miss the fact that Khan was going to be the villain and that Cumberbatch was playing him, so a pleasant surprise. Peter Weller was good on support (glad he's still getting work TBH, always been a fan) and Alice Eve has cracking tits, though I can see why the underwear scene caused such a furor as it is more than slightly unnecessary. Karl Urban continues to impress also :Q:

watched new hobbit

dont go see it in 3D.

3D is sooo whack

other than that they stepped up their game massively since the last hobbit film. its still nowhere near as good as lord of the rings, but tbh the hobbit is a fairly shit story compared to lotr, so u cant really blame pete for that one

suppose you can -at least with having to do it in three gos

but yeah he should do a film like brain dead with a shit budget because people would still go and see it based on his name and he'd probably get a ridiculous turnover that would urge others to make films cheaper. You have to blame a guy that can make gold out of shit, and then decides to turn gold into shitty gold

I think im going to watch it later and possibly sample that dragons voice.

Agree with the new Hobbit being several steps up from the first one. But there is only so much you can do with that story really...they included some extra characters/plot lines...

I wholeheartedly agree with the Smaug voice acting: the stand-out performance in the film. I didn't go see it in 3D, I agree that it's mostly whack (though it had some cool tricks in Gravity, but they were just there to mask the fact that on the whole that movie is empty).

What was good about gravity then? How was this a movie that delivered beyond the graphic features?

Dead In Tombstone

Danny Trejo is an outlaw betrayed and killed by his old gang, goes to hell, makes a deal with Lucifer...you can guess how this is going. Basically a 'Machete Western' but less good.

Mine would have to be Filth, without a shadow of a doubt

It managed to convey the isolation of space and the problems that we have to solve just to carry out simple tasks up there pretty well. The sound design and score were also executed very well.

Oblivion. Awesome throw back to the epic desolation of 70s sci-fi, really dug the locations, cinematography and sound track.

Gravity is a mind-blowing experience, m8. With movies like Gravity is it not what you see that matters (although the graphic features are far beyond understanding), but what you don't see. And it's also a step towards a philosophical conversation what is always good. The ppl that call this the next 2001 are aware of what they saw in this movie.

And what Pedro Sánchez said.

I'm having trouble grasping both statements above. Moreover, Oblivion best movie of the year? :q:

Seriously, it's amazing that people see completely different things in these movies. But thank god we're not all the same.

Top 3 :

3: Only God Forgives
2: The Act of Killing
1 : A Field in England (by a long shot)

Honourable mentions: Mud, Blackfish, Room 237

Sure it is...take away Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriquez, then add back the bird who played Dizzy in Starship Troopers/the detective in Saw/one of Joey's acting colleagues in Friends.
