Re: Whats in store for 2014 #BoldPredictions
Yeah I'm getting bored of 808s. It's SO overplayed atm. I've been getting out of the 808s and been getting more creative with my sub lines and I think a lot of people will do that too.
I think dubstep is actually coming back a little (at least it is with my group of friends). Mostly I really like Krewella and I have for a couple years but they're breaking out more and more and they're putting edm back into the pop culture at least down here.
I don't care about tempo.
I think 2014 will be the year for "so simple it's great" music.
Hopefully indie rock goes away and my rock radio station will start playing actual hard rock again.
Hopefully trap goes away or gets better and not as repetitive.
Hopefully Skrillex finally comes out with a new EP. He hasn't put out anything in a while and I wanna hear something new.
Really I have no way of telling where it will go.

Not a prediction...but I'd like to hear more music that's clearly simple but just damn good.
Also would like for people to get over the over-prestine mix. I'd could do w more grit.
I'd like to see more of what people do with all the new, affordable analog hardware and just more hardware use/talk in general... I think we've seen what happens when you can get a tricked out DAW for very little money and install it on your home pc.
Less engineers making music and more musicians making music...in other words...I'd like to see my peers focus on good song writing arrangement etc...I'm tired of compression and eq.

What does that mean? Both the 909 and 808 have been used in dance music since the '80's.ehbrums1 wrote:909 will be to 2014 what the 808 was to 2011
I am still confused over this naming a genre after a bpm thing. We've been making Electro, Techno, Brokenbeat and House at this tempo for years.ehbrums1 wrote:make or break year for 130
Buy some records and make a CD or mp3's?ChadDub wrote:Hopefully indie rock goes away and my rock radio station will start playing actual hard rock again.
I love grimy mixes sometimes.fragments wrote:Also would like for people to get over the over-prestine mix. I'd could do w more grit.
This would be nice.fragments wrote:Less engineers making music and more musicians making music...in other words...I'd like to see my peers focus on good song writing arrangement etc...I'm tired of compression and eq.
Re: Whats in store for 2014 #BoldPredictions
When I turn the radio to a station called The ROCK of New Orleans, I want to hear fucking Godsmack, not that stupid Hey Ho song.
Re: Whats in store for 2014 #BoldPredictions
2011 saw the takeover by "UK Bass" which was pretty much 808 house. popularity in the 909 has been rising recently, mks wrote:What does that mean? Both the 909 and 808 have been used in dance music since the '80's.ehbrums1 wrote:909 will be to 2014 what the 808 was to 2011
its been said over and over in the 130 thread. its not about the tempo its about the sound.I am still confused over this naming a genre after a bpm thing. We've been making Electro, Techno, Brokenbeat and House at this tempo for years.

I rarely listen to the radio these days, but when I do, it is usually some Bhangra from the nearby Indian community. I heard some Rave Bhangrastep the other day!
Re: Whats in store for 2014 #BoldPredictions
Sorry, I am going to have to laugh at that one. The 909 has been popular and used continuously for last 25 years. Your age group just learned about it recently is what I would say.ehbrums1 wrote: popularity in the 909 has been rising recently
Re: Whats in store for 2014 #BoldPredictions
I agree with some of chads post but 909 is my go-to drum rack...
As for 2014:
I actually think this is the year dubstep makes a comeback. Tons of artists put out good stuff this year and I can't wait for what's to come. Artists I'm excited to see stuff from:
501
MitiS (though he has openly stated he's moving on to DnB)
Skrux
Feed Me
Virtual Riot
Just A Gent
Culture Code
Fox Stevenson
Elliott Berger
Dabin
Artists who I think are going to flop:
Adventure Club
Krewella
Skrillex
xKore
Sub Focus
Candyland
Modestep
I'm REALLY excited for Dabin, I'm loving the new style that Fox Stevenson is putting out, and Just A Gent has to be one of the most underrated producers out there.
Hey guys, I'm really big on supporting "small" music and the future as well. Here is my list of people that need our help in getting there:
Just A Gent
Dezolent
Venemy
Vexare
Just a small list but a few newcomers that I found this year that really deserve to get there.
2014 will be the year of melodic dubstep, I can assure you that!

Re: Whats in store for 2014 #BoldPredictions
It's been popular in house and shit but until UKF made a youtube channel America didn't know what electronic music was. Electronic music has now taken over America.mks wrote:Sorry, I am going to have to laugh at that one. The 909 has been popular and used continuously for last 25 years. Re: Whats in store for 2014 #BoldPredictions
Oh and I forgot to add T-Mass and Urbanstep to the on the rise list

Sorry Chad, but no. Maybe in Iowa or something. You need to spend some time in cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, Miami, San Francisco, Seattle and others to know that electronic music has been happening here for decades.ChadDub wrote:It's been popular in house and shit but until UKF made a youtube channel America didn't know what electronic music was. Re: Whats in store for 2014 #BoldPredictions
Well there's definitely been a lot of more noisy or less clean sounding stuff becoming more popular in the last year or so. I have a feeling this will continue (and I hope it does).
Re: Whats in store for 2014 #BoldPredictions
Probably. I live in Louisiana and the people here aren't fond of many things other than modern Rap and Country music. In 2009 there were a lot of people getting on the dubstep wagon but it's died out.mks wrote:Sorry Chad, but no. Maybe in Iowa or something. Shit I grew up in no where Ohio and was going to raves early in highschool...which was 97-01...which aint even early on...I know the whole bass music explosion makes it seem new...but we've been on board since the early 90s and earlier. Shit there is still a pirate radio station you can pick up in Youngstown Ohio that plays mostly electronic music.
Just saying. Not hating.

Re: Whats in store for 2014 #BoldPredictions
Like I said, people here are very shut off to anything BUT country music and southern rap music. Anything other than those two genres has it's own little niche of people aka scene kids, long haired "tru metal" guys, etc. The scene kids are the ones that dabble in stuff that UKF puts out but anything under that isn't appreciated by anyone except hipsters.fragments wrote:Shit I grew up in no where Ohio and was going to raves early in highschool...which was 97-01...which aint even early on...I know the whole bass music explosion makes it seem new...but we've been on board since the early 90s and earlier. Chad where do you think house music came from and when?

To be honest, the gay and lesbian community....wolf89 wrote:Chad where do you think house music came from and when?
And the 70's except it didn't really hit a main audience until the 80's
Just an educated guess...
