First of all, thanks for your answers.
My monitors have rear facing ports and sound "fine". Also right up against a wall.
This is good to hear. Do you think it would improve the sound dramatically if you put foam behind the speakers?
What size (roughly in m3) will your new room be?
I dont know man :o
My current room is probably something around 30 m^3. (Hard to say because i have a roof slope goin half through my room. You see why my acoustic is shit  )
My new room will have probably some more. Around 40 m^3 i guess.
You can check the sub frequencies on another system.
I could but im actually lazy, so i want to rely on one setup. :D
And i think in the future i will give my projects to a professional mixing engineer (friend of a friend ) so i dont really have to check if my track translates to any other monitorsystems.
The D5s are so clinical in the mids and have such a really nice stereo image.
Yeah but i think the Yammies arent a misbuy either speaking about stereo image. i have heard a lot of positive comments on this topic.
To my ear they made the KRKs sound like hi fi speakers.
Yeah thats the kind of thing people are saying over and over and i probably just listed them because they are in my pricerange and popular. Who didnt yet think about buying them

Yes, all the Yamahas in that entry level price range are pretty good to. Ive worked on different sets of them a bit in other peoples studios.

Something else worth mentioning. When I was working on the KRKs I found myself turning them up and down a lot while working--Id find myself turning them up and up trying to hear something then realize I was working really loudly. I rarely touch my monitor volume with the D5s.

How was it about the Yamaha speakers?

I dont recall playing with the volume much. But I havent worked on them consistantly enough to have a real opinion. I just feel like they sounded pretty clear when ever I caught a few hours here or there working with someone else. Didnt really think about it much you know?

No you need to treat the room as a whole, not just sticking a foam pad right behind a speaker.

Y'all think I should bother with acoustic treatment if I have a weird shaped room?

the dots is my E-Kit, the bottom right rectangle is my bed, my door is on the wall that sticks out on the bottom left, my desk/monitors are top left, top right is my dresser.

Weird shaped rooms would benefit more imo. Any room would benefit from it.

Here's an easy check for whether your room is even a good starting point for monitoring:

Sure, 98% of us have to make do with whatever room is available, but maybe it's fun to check it out anyway.

I have only heard the hs8's in a near perfect control room. They are quality monitors for a good price.

Maybe don't break your neck trying to figure it out by the chart alone, there's a lot of information
on Bolt's acoustics work.

Bringing this up again. Really want the Equator D5's now because of Fragment, but they are really expensive in Europe, so I have to buy them from equators website and ship them from the us to sweden with one of those shipping companies which is expensive.

So, Wub recommended Presonus ERIS a while ago, they seem great, cheap and I haven't heard anything negative about them. Has ANYONE tried them?

Also regarding adams, is it better to get A3X which are one inch smaller (4.5) but from a better 'series' or whatever, or the Adam F5?

If you want the Equators I'd suggest saving up a little longer and buying from Thomann, that store is so good I could eat it :U: and 3 year warranty

KRK Rokit 6s are alright.... from personal experience.

M-Audio 8 DX2s sound pretty good but there's some problems with a lot of customers monitors sadly. They sound pretty amazing for the price though.

I would honestly just get something cheap and save up for Genelec monitors or something like that.

If you're not going to mix a lot of recorded material or other people's work, don't
get worked up over the choice too much.
If you can, try a few different sets out by listening to your reference tracks on them. These are
tracks you know inside out.

There's experienced engineers who complain about 1000 quid Genelecs and mix on old Tannoys.. it comes down to preference.

^^^^ nailed it.

Experience outweighs anything.

You give a pro golfer(i.e. Tiger Woods) a $1000 golfclub & a $200 golfclub to hit a ball down the range...the outcome will probably be the same because of experience..
you give the same golfclubs to someone that hasn't practiced golfing at all....and the outcome will be the same between the two golf clubs. Because the person isn't EXPERiENCED at the skill at all...

point being is... train your ears. That's whats important. I'm pretty sure Paris Hilton has some $30,000 speakers and the best air conditioned studio out there. But guess what...she doesn't know what to do with it. She only knows how to suck dick and put on lipstick.

P.S Fuck golf. Could've came up with a better analogy

Eskimo - Yeah, I love thomann (got my bass there), but ordering the D5's directly from Equators website and paying a hundred bucks for shipping to sweden is WAY cheaper. 25% more expensive actually, which is a lot when you're talking about numbers this (relatively) big. The money I have, that I can decide what to spend on, is the money that the government gives to all kids and teenagers that study, 100 bucks a month.

AxeD - That's a good point! I have been thinking this a lot, sitting up late at night researching about monitors, phasing issues, transient/frequency responses, room acoustics, and my ears are still untrained as hell. I probably couldn't tell a difference between 10000 dollar monitors and a pair of 100 dollar computer speakers in a blind test. If someone said 'these are the best monitors that all the pros use' and they were broken, distorting 10 dollar computer speakers with a lp filter at 10k I'd probably just think that was how a truly flat speaker sounded.
I have had accidents where I have added compressors to channels, thought "very transparent sound even though I have the ratio all the way up, impressive" and then noticed that it wasn't turned on. You make a good point. Probably pulling the triggers on these D5s, they'll be good enough for me. Probably way too good, really. :/

CHromaRhythm: That analogy tho, haha. I'll make sure to train em.

you won't regret it. consider these for a future upgrade if you don't have stands. also consider getting some foam on your walls. equator just released these "sound abatement panels" with francis buckley..i like them but the price point is a little high. still considering getting some because they are cheaper for d5 owners.

the better your initial listening setup is the better your initial mixes will be, once you train your ear. i've had these speakers for a year and i'm just now getting used to them and knowing what to expect on export. enjoy :)

Thanks alot <3
Yeah I saw those panels. They are really expensive, how much cheaper are they for D5 users? Didnt see that. Anyway, probably getting these as soon as possible. Seem amazing.

Loving dsf atm. People on here are not only helpful, some of them also seem to know things.
