I really hope there are some cool people jumping on this train, because you can do it terribly wrong... But if done right, it's gonna be an amazing year!

Predictions, eh?

Was reading some article (maybe on NPR?) the other day which was talking about trends in music dating centuries back. Throughout history, younger people have always been into high energy music. This isn't a fad but often high energy music manifests as trendy/fad music. I see the high energy dubstep i.e. UKF dubstep dying down and being replaced by new forms of high energy music. Maybe drum and bass influenced... I could see a dnb revival happening where elements of trap, hardstyle, and house sneak in. Trap will still be pretty popular, at least in America.

In the aforementioned article, the author highlighted how slightly older folks prefer feel-good, danceable music. I see pop-py, calmer styles of house getting really popular i.e. the Majestic Casual channel on YouTube. Check it out if you haven't before- it's really nice. I think this style of music will dominate 2014 as we can already see it happening with Lorde, Lana del Rey, etc.

And then there will be the shitty trends of 2014 like Selena Gomes' hybrid version of dubstep and vomit-inducing pop songwriting.

Nothing major will change though, music is constantly evolving regardless of what year it is.

"New genre called "130" takes over the EDM landscape and goes mainstream after ex-emo guitarist Sonny Moore makes hit of the century called 130 Monsters and 130 Sprites."

Breakbeat revival

EDM and deep house backlash creates genuinely interesting new takes on the genres

more vocals

more analogue shit that is actually shit but held up as its made with analogue gear.

Juju and Jordash continue to impress

James Holden gets his live set right

Smaller nights, more basements, more lasers, more smoke machines, more mirrors, cheaper beer, more discoballs.
