Get your gain stagging, EQing and arrangement just right. Anything else you could is icing on that cake.

After eq'ing I use a chain of send effects to fatten things:

Waves SSL Bus Compressor
Sausage Fattner
Camel Phat 3
Camel Crusher
Ferric TDS
Satson (ComputerMusic)
Reverberate (ComputerMusic)
Tal Dub 2 Delay

I find multiband compression on wobbles can help.

Cut sub and bass out of everything else, and turn everything else down.

Frequency split you bass tone into lows mids and highs. Saturate the lows, distort the mids and highs. You also want to spread things out as you go up the freqs so add things like flange on the mids, chorus on the highs. Do everything very subtly and let it all combine. You also want to pay close attention to your EQing and compression. several smaller steps are much better than one big one.

It just comes with practice man.

Here's what I made earlier. It's DnB, but meh. Loud and fat bass, but still a clean mix. As I said, it comes with time. I made this by doing what I said up above, the devil is in the details though, it's all down to getting to know each stage of the bass building process and how, when and why to do what.

Here is where the freqs are split

This is the FX chain.

The VSTI Bounce track is the bounced Audio from the TyrelN6 synth I used to make the bass tone with. The red plugins are bypassed. The track on the far left is the Buss.

The same concept can be applied to any kind of EDM style bass.

It really depends on what your looking to bring out in the sound, however in general compressing the living tits out of the signal and bring it back up with the lovely makeup gain will get you close...

Long processing chains.

Having a clean sound to start with....i.e. Massive is what I used.

EQ, Compression, Reverb, Saturation etc.

No one taught me, besides getting hints from what producers have said in interviews & on twitter....

the biggest tip is...

experiment.
