also kalawanji,
can't say i full agree man, dmz stuff is definitely overrated. the prices don't even reflect that they're just stupid, but releases like mud/antiwar dub and haunted/lean forward (i'm sure everyone else has different favourites etc) have got to be the quintessential dubstep releases; dark minimal and amazing on a system. they might be b8 and overplayed but it isn't a stretch to say they're some of the best at all

Big up man. Hope you saw what I saw, some absolutely quality tunes being left out, cos when you think of all the tunes that have come out since, what, 02? 50 isn't really that many.

yeah i agree quintessential classics, some of their tunes define dubstep for me and some are my favourites. But the best? its not that they're overplayed or more famous i just don't think that they made the best dubstep tune and never had (its the same with Skream). It's producers like appleblim, shackleton, pev, pangeaa, toasty, boxcutter, vex'd, burial, pinch, d1, guido, distance, horsepower productions that are just a step above

there is a difference between a tune being your favorite and it being the best dubstep tune

Area as a whole has been one of the most consistently good dubstep labels imo. Never suffered a "down" release, and tunes like Tube Sound, Cane Cutter, etc. are classic dubsteps for me.

Cane Cutter might also have my favourite drop too.

Ah yeah, that was the digital only release weren't it. Could be ripe for a vinyl release, if you're listening Be-1ne....

for me it's gotta be like
Loefah - Mud and horror show, for being pure classics if nothing else
Kahn - Dread
Peverelist - Roll with the punches
Mala - anti war dub
Pinch - qawwali

honorable mention goes out to Skeng for sheer banger nature and endless wheels and plays 6-7 years after its release
