I can't deny that it sounds good. Also Bendtner just got one for being shit.
Oh and Dizzee got the mercury prize, which sort of gave a little legitimacy/authority back to that whole thing.

Being recognised by someone as being one the best in your craft is sick.
Well 'someone' is kind of vague and if the next argument is by peers, then you'd have to define what 'peers' means. In the context of Hollywood it means competition and then you'd have to consider what incentive they have to vote the way they do and really believe that it isn't just out of vanity.
In hollywood the oscars have the effect of institutionalised censorship imo and what actually is quality in the context of film, is better judged by for example all the film schools. Eventhough they have the same effect on films locally, it is at least not the same entirely rigid foundation for judging that you experience with the oscars. If the fact that Halle Berry had to get that Oscar just a few years ago, out of a courtesy towards 'ballance' or whatever then let that serve as an example of how hopeless and rigid that whole deal is (was..maybe..).
Shakespear in love got 13.....
There's obviously little fx companies and so on that benefit from it.
But again those awards don't have to be televised and brought up the way they do.

Oh and
I suspect have probably not won awards
I got a bronze medal in badminton lol so bite me !.

Barely even a film. Pissed if you paid money to see that

5/10
And that's a 5?
Three points for the visuals, two for the time spent with my dad.
So a 3.

Unless I also go and watch it with your dad, I suppose.

5 on a scale of 4 - 10? It was a brilliantly hateful review, with a mark that says good/average, surely?

My score is not just for the film but for the experience while watching it. My dad and I enjoyed sitting there and tearing the film apart.

Similarly, if I went to the cinema with a lady friend and the film was so shit that she decides to give me a blow job, then the score might go from a 2 to a 7 or 8.

Being recognised by anyone lol, peers, betters, plebs, whatever. If someone came up to me on the street and was like "Gareth, good work today!" I'd be happy, even more so if they gave me a trophy too.

No deep analysis here, just winning things because people think you're sick at something is nice.

Just don't watch the oscars.

the scale of the Oscars makes you think what really goes on behind it, like whether it is a completely fair and square bunch of awards. i dont really know much about it though, im just speculating

of course it isn't, don't be so naive :dunce:

Anyway I don't really care about all that stuff that much anyway, the whole movie industry is overhyped thesedays. I did watch American Hustle a couple days back though and thought it was pretty fun, but a little predictable. Bale was awesome and Adams :U: :U:

Aha. You were rating your evening. Very confusing to put it right beneath your comments in the film, but I forgive you. 3/10 for Gravity it is.

No, i'm rating the experience the film gave me - 5/10 for Gravity

Just finished American Hustle. It had all the right elements for a great film but somehow fell short. Bale did very well in showing his range though, but that doesn't mean his character was particularly interesting.
There are better, less predictable con artist films out there.
[+] Spoiler
De Niro was a nice surprise and was very menacing in an understated way. His scene was probably the best bit. Really enjoyed Louie CK's roll in it, i'd very much like to see him in more films.

People that say awards are silly I suspect have probably not had someone come up to them on the street and be like "People, good work today!" People would be happy, even more so if they gave them trophies too..

This was seriously good.

Hijacking by Somali pirates of a Danish ship, focussed on the negotiations between the company's C.E.O and the negotiator for the pirates.

Really well done, made you feel the tension and stress of the whole situation. I've not seen Captain Phillips yet, but I doubt it's as good as this.
