Fuck's sake. Just after I put in the work to pimp out my MPK61 they release a new version with backlit pads. I'm curious if they fixed the sensitivity thing. They'd have to be utterly retarded to release a MKii version with the same pads. Don't think they improved much aesthetically, never really dug the red scheme. Looks like the pads are slightly larger and more square? I actually like the more compact rectangular pads but I could see how larger pads would be a plus for some.

Re: Second Generation MPK Series
Looks pretty cool, but if I'm getting anything with pads this year it's gonna be the M-audio trigger finger pro. That thing looks awesome, I would consider getting an MPK if I found out there were some cool new features or something, but it just looks like a slight revamp.
Re: Second Generation MPK Series
Yeah doesn't look like too much has changed. I'm assuming for their sake that the primary motive was to improve the pad sensitivity.

Re: Second Generation MPK Series
Yeah, I cant speak from experience with the mpk series, but it seems to me that most AKAI MIDI controllers with pads don't seem to have good pads right out of the gate. Actaully I did have an mpk mini once, but with the price I wasn't expecting the pads to be all that great, but the mobility was what I paid for.
Re: Second Generation MPK Series
Thought they'd already release a second version. Is this the third. I can't be fucked to look. I care more about the appearance of the bottom of my feet than my kb.
Re: Second Generation MPK Series
I've never liked the aesthetic look of the Akai MPK series, they look really cheap and plastic like,

It says in the title you fucking mong.nowaysj wrote:Thought they'd already release a second version. Is this the third. I can't be fucked to look. I care more about the appearance of the bottom of my feet than my kb.
I'm not super big on the aesthetics either but mine looks a lot nicer now that I've thrown some aftermarket parts on it. I'd still like to paint the faceplate but that's a job for summertime when it warms up.
Gonna start a thread soon with pics of my MPK

Thought, the MAX was the new (now old) version of the mpk. Okay, I'll click your first link.
Re: Second Generation MPK Series
Naw. I thought that too though when they first came out. Figured that marked their abandonment of the MPK series.

Re: Second Generation MPK Series
Exactly. But have they moved to new pads? Like even on the max, they look like squish pads.SunkLo wrote:Naw. I thought that too though when they first came out. Figured that marked their abandonment of the MPK series.
You get your pads, btw? What is the deally-o?
Re: Second Generation MPK Series
Pads + 1 layer of tape = sweetness. Was a bit disappointed they weren't perfect out of the box, but a single layer of tape on the fatpads is more accurate and stable than 5-6 layers on the stock pads.
These new 2nd gen MPK pads do look different. Aside from being backlit, they look more square. I'm assuming they weren't retarded enough to neglect the sensitivity issue but who knows.

Re: Second Generation MPK Series
Their retardation is somewhat legendary, so we'll see?
Re: Second Generation MPK Series
Yeah, I definitely wouldn't pre-order one. They've gone a bit down the tubes since the times of yore. Then again, so has everyone else.
