Don't be a cheapskate and pay for professional work.
Even if it's "For a burger and a pint" down the local, or £20, or £5, or ANYTHING than asking for free.
You should value your logo, so be prepared to put the time in yourself to learn or pay someone for their skills. If you don't, you'll get a crap logo.

Further to this, there are plenty of people out there who are willing to do a lot for very little. Case in point, I found the website http://fiverr.com/ in which people advertise their services and set their prices; usually this is for about $5 (so about £3ish?) you can get your stuff done, with re-edits at the designer's discretion. Some of the graphic designers on there are top-class for the money to be fair so it's worth splashing your hard-earned pocket money on getting your logo done by these guys.Capture pt wrote:Don't be a cheapskate and pay for professional work.

Re: Grapihc Designer for Logo?
I used to freelance graphic design but I haven't done it in about a year. I will do it for free but you'd have to give me some time because I don't have any free time right now.
I have my non-professional showcase at:
Musicktomyears.deviantart.com
Most of it is just basic stuff

Re: Grapihc Designer for Logo?
ill do it for money.
just did a book proposal for a coffee-table book about the history of dance music (not edm
) - done quite a few logos in my time, including my own. Good work takes time though, and consider, how much effort would you put into music you were asked to make for free?
I spent approximately 16 hours on my logo, and that was fast because i knew exactly what the client (me) wanted. no communication issues there
if you want a "free" logo, then just get one of those shit $5 logo maker apps for iOS.

Re: Grapihc Designer for Logo?
you wanna do it yourself, grab a 'try before you buy' copy of illustrator, and start reading everything you can about typefaces. I suggest Ellen Lupton's "Thinking with Type".
Waaaaaaay more to it than you think. a good logo is just as much about negative space as it is about creating a form. It's a pictograph - a primal form of visual communication that speaks volumes.

Re: Grapihc Designer for Logo?
I've seen plenty of work from fiverrr logo designers. all of it shit. that doesn't mean there aren't good ones on there. but we're talking "I made this logo with photoshop as a bitmap, with a free truetype font i got off dafont.com"Dub Fiend wrote:Further to this, there are plenty of people out there who are willing to do a lot for very little. I've done work for free for family who have been swindled by idiot kids who think they can make a logo, just because it pains me to find out they ended up spending way more than $5 with a particular "designer" for revisions. Revisions of shitty work.

stuff to add to their portfolio I'm sure.

If you want to pay a bit, you'll get a professional logo on http://www.crowdspring.com/ and http://99designs.no/.
Basically, on those sites, you host a competition with a cash price. You get lots of submissions (crowdspring say they get an average of 110 submissions per contest), pick some of your favourites, give feedback to them then announce a winner and all rights to the logo is signed over to you and they get their price. However, it does cost a bit, but in the end I reckon it's worth it

Re: Grapihc Designer for Logo?
Misk wtf could you possibly be adjusting at like hour 12 of that logo? I literally don't think I've ever spent more than 5 hours on stuff for myself...
Illustrator is good, similar to photoshop but more mathematical and less by-the-artist-eye per se. Either one will work fine. However I agree with the negative space and the likes..

Re: Grapihc Designer for Logo?
The difference being that the former is a vector-based image editor whereas the latter is raster/pixel-based. Vector imagery is infinitely scalable, which is why it is ideal for logos. If the base image behind a logo was a moderate-resolution ( 800x600 ? ) bitmap, you would have a hard time rendering that logo at a very high resolution without blurring/distortion. This is why professional logos are always made in vector format. Granted, the same process generally takes considerably longer and is considerably more tedious in illustrator/inkscape/etc. than in a raster-based image editor.Musick wrote:Illustrator is good, similar to photoshop but more mathematical and less by-the-artist-eye per se. Re: Grapihc Designer for Logo?
Guys to end this argument, I made myself a shitty little thing on paint, better than what it was (just a downloaded font) but hey its working for now.
