Thick Electro 'Disco Rangers / Rock N Roll' Saw bass

Post by Alan Adobe » Fri Jan 24, 2014 4:03 am

I am trying to make a thick electro bass like the bass Skrillex features in the main parts of Disco Rangers and Rock N Roll. Its not wobbly but its thick and heavy. I believe its a saw tooth bass, does anyone have any tips on how to make a bass like this? Thanks!

Its a simple sound but its going to be very complex for you to grasp hold of.
Skrillex's way of creating sounds is a very unique process, and replicating that process is near impossible, but this is as is with all producers. However the sound was made, it was definately resmpled. You can hear it in the sound.

When you've resampled a sound enough it starts to lose its monotonous and digital feel, the "wobbles" start to fade out, and get overrun by silent bits being distorted at really low frequencies. An example would be you have a wobble at 1/4, and after resampling enough it starts to go off time and instead of sounding like a wobble it just is kinda... ~~~ instead of |\|\|\ . Kinda hard to make sense but i hope it helps. Either way, its probably massive or FM8, i'd say with some sort of metallic wobble variation and note various, then sampled and chopped up. The sound clearly states it is composed of 4 or 5 different pieces of audio, not just a single midi segment.
A little tune of mine :D

Yeah it's really fucking hard and convoluted

Basically a growl patch (Zebra specifically, but Massive can make it sound close), then split into two chains: one has an amp (or guitar rig), a saturator, and if you want movement, an auto filter band passed. The other chain has a shit ton of effects on it: another EQ, saturator, distortion, multiband compression, EQ again. Automate to taste

That's how I know how to do it.. Tbh it's really over saturated

By the way it's 100% Zebra. Random waveforms by manually chopping up noise in it. I don't know the synth well at all but I know this is how it was done
