I just heard yesterday that you have to pay around 1000£ under the table to the hospital, when you have a kid in Russia. That's how far corruption is spread apparently.

Is that worse than the 10k$ you have to pay above the table in the US?

dunno how it is in russia but here it's similar for state-funded hospitals. not saying you have to bribe doctors, and definitely not for standard shit, but if it comes down to surgery and being hospitalised, it's better to give the doctor, the person doing the anaesthesia and/or even nurses to make sure you get proper care (actually paid around 1000£ when i got surgery). the reason for this is doctors working for the state being seriously underpaid.

i'd rather go to private hospitals and pay those amounts or (usually) more but at least it's legit. cause otherwhise you're paying for a service that is supposed to be free
