Very good indeed... obviously pretty squarely aimed at award committees, but the whole thing felt very lovingly put together.. especially entwining the odd bit of stock footage to connect to events around MLK, the Black Panthers and Obama. Forrest Whitaker is superb as always and I don't know why I still let good performances from Oprah Winfrey surprise me; she's great in this and she really does have some tig ol' bitties.

Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon

fantastically cheesy. probably one of the most entertaining of those scifi channel originals. An american college football team for some reason is flying over the himalayas. Plane crashes. The State College Grizzlies' star quarterback Peyton Elway ( )leads the survivors against a crew of Yeti's.

Also the line: "everybodys somebodys brother, sister"

44 Inch Chest for the 2nd time.

I wasn't sure this would stand up to a re-watch. Who gives a shit about story, It's brilliant. Surreal, so much profane bullshit and brilliant turns of phrase. You can't really question the cast.

I'm watching some film on the bbc iplayer called 'Love'. Its like a terribly scripted low budget mix of Gravity. Rather be watching paint dry.

Might have to check out the movie DiegoSapiens

The past week I've seen Her, 12 Years a Slave and 12 Monkeys. I liked Her the best. Incredible movies.

I've got Nebraska lined up for tomorrow, if I still have time to watch it after the new True Detective episode...

I'm not insane for 12 monkeys but I'm always curious what people thought of it? On some levels it is really great, but not the easiest watch.

It's good but La Jetée is better

Yeah big up Jesus for dying for our sins and netting us a public holiday in the process.

Also, hot cross buns.

It's Deceptively complex. Bruce Willis is very strong in this role and convincingly projects vulnerability and desperation. If you've seen Brazil (1985), it's very much in the same vein, same sort of cinematography.

I don't know if it's a classic, but it's pretty solid overall. Takes a few minutes to get going IMO.

Compliance (2012)

Dramatisation of the McDonalds prank-call scam where someone rang up impersonating a police officer and convinced managers to strip search and sexually assault a young female employee. They've obviously stuck pretty firmly to what happened, so it's not exactly Das Experiment levels of WTF, but you will spend pretty much the entire movie going "WHY HAS NOBODY ASKED HIM TO PROVE HE'S A COP?"

Humans are astounding.

Image

Don Jon (2013)

Joseph Gordon-Levitt writes and stars as a New Jersey porn addict. Scarlett Johansson as his princess girlfriend who rumbles his habit and Julianne Moore as the older woman who attempts to ween him off. Slightly hackneyed New Jerseyisms in places, but a good watch and surprisingly on the money at times.
