I always found Pro Tools to be a keyboard shortcut-based DAW and nothing more. Yeah, it was good for audio, but considering the amount of money you would need to sink into it to make it work, Cubase is just as adequate for recording.

Studio One keeps getting referenced, although I know nothing about it whatsoever except that it's clip-based.

re: Unmusical - meaning that whenever I sat in front of PT and started poking around, it was the least intuitive thing in the world for what I/we do, i.e. beats and sequences and whatnot. As tracking software it's definitely amazing, but the corporate attitude that keeps getting mentioned isn't just sour grapes from the cheap seats - it's a real cultural problem at Avid that's caused brain drain in terms of their best developers & engineers jumping ship and the remaining staff having to increasingly take on the workloads of people leaving or getting canned. I know this because I'm socially friendly with several employees there.

The product is good enough that there's always going to be an influential and wealthy core user base who will not abandon it despite their clusterfuckery; this is why reacquisition is a likely prospect if things continue going the way they're going (almost 1200% in the hole cash-flow wise? Ouch.)

Holy fuck. That is serious. That is major arterial bleed out. Image Line should buy protools. Haha, that would be amazing.

Avid should have allowed their software to be pirated.

If you click through, there's an update article on CDM saying how they reported incorrectly due to citing inaccurate sources. I don't think Avid's in as dire times as it initially seemed.

I agree regarding Bro Tools' being uninspired. I haven't used it in many versions but I remember the only thing it really being good at was audio multitracking. And Reaper beats it there for a sliver of the price.

re: Updated article -

Yeah, here's another more recent/informed piece:

So the official party line is that they're solvent, but there's been a huge pile up of delays in their accounting. It is interesting that they were de-listed from NASDAQ tho. -q-

This is also somewhat telling: http://www.glassdoor.co.uk/Reviews/Avid ... -E2291.htm

Meanwhile, Justin Frankel is laughing evilly and tenting his fingers. :6:

The sole reason for them being de-listed from nasdaq is the actual delay in accounting.
