i listened to jungle from 96 til now, but became bored of the "nu skool" fromm 2000 forward... til i discovered sublow!!!! i never listened to house, though i likes some tekno and gabba and breakcore (where jungle was meant to go!). plus i love duB music!
What's going on y'all? I'm fresh here...currently residing in the 808 State (Honolulu, HI).

To answer the question, I grew up listening to lots of raw, grimey Hip-Hop (circa 94-98) or street-hop (ie. Mobb Deep's Hell On Earth, Big L, DITC). I'd say Hip-Hop is still my 1st love in music....got into dnb when the tech-step sound was still running thangs. And like alot of drum n' bass heads in here, I started to hate the new "clownstep / wobbly b-lines" sounds that were evolving, so I found my way to nuskool breaks - more of the darker stuff like PMT, Koma & Bones, Backdraft, Baobinga etc. Then...."plodstep" came about & once again cheesed shit up for me. Went back to dnb and loved the sounds that I heard from cats like Evol Intent, Ewun, Infiltrata & Hochi, Photek, Teebee, Noisia etc. Went out & bought Tayo's FabricLive 32 on cd a couple months ago & heard tunes like "Woppa" (which isnt really dubstep I guess), More Than Money, & Lighting by Skream - and I was hooked!!!! I'm a sucker for bass (who isn't??) and in Hawaii there's a huuuuge reggae scene out here (if you sort through all the cheesy shit), and alot of dope local roots reggae bands (Ooklah the Moc) so naturally I picked up on reggae too. Matter of fact, I pretty much like all subgenres of reggae - be it roots, lover's rock, dancehall / bashment. But back to my new found love of dubstep....I can't get enough of the stuff - alot of these mixes are replacing all the other shit on my ipod. Oh yeah, shouts to Claw too....his mix helped out in getting me hooked.

Now hopefully I can get some 1200s again, cop some 12 / 10 / 7"s & hopefully get a scene in the islands thriving!!

Peace

ive always had a tremendous response to music, ever since i was a baby in the backseat of our car in iran crying as soon as i heard the sad and wailing mouns of the muslim call to prayers.

i just responded to dubstep. the tempo, the bass asthetic, the common demoniator that connects the different styles feels like an extension of my own taste.

also, its really fucking sexy.

grew up listening to ska and punk....graduated to electronica, began djing dnb in early highschool....started producing my own tunes in college..got tired of the dnb scene shortly after i started trying to play shows/sell the music i had created.....got some dubstep mixes off the forums and connected with it i guess...i saw juju play the first dubstep set i heard live on halloween 06 and from there ive only grown to love the music more than when i first heard it

Nice one HERA for bumping ;) It was cool to see the responses from people from like 2+ years ago... including blackdown, oneman, and a few people talkin about the early formations of Hotflush. Nice little glimpse into the past...

Been playing the drums since I was fairly young. First got into various types of electronic music in high school around age 17 (2002) including rave music, jungle, drum n bass, house, etc. Started spinning records in late 2004 spanning through house, breaks, minimal techno, and drum n bass. wasn't until I was playin at a house party in boston and heard a dubstep set by DJ Skunk but didn't know that it was dubstep. Then I moved to england for 3 months last year (2006) and picked up the Allstars CD Vol 4, went to FWD, went to DMZ, got absolutely hooked from there.

Started out as a writer back in the early 90´s and had to dig up some history . . .
bambaataa, kraftwerk, treacherous three, yellow magic orchestra
strated buying and spinnining a few years later . . .
gunshot, bushkilla, bolt warhead . . . and the classic era of US rap 86-93 . . .
towards 2000 I had to dig deeper and deeper to find anything deep and dark enough, so I had a few years checking out dnb and random sounds, but not playing much vinyl.
Then Vex´d played a set in Oslo. It emptied the whole party, except a few dnb heads.
But to me this was a MINDBLOWING EXPERIENCE !!!
Ever since I have tried to make all of oslo experience that same feeling !!!
And now we have monthly nights and lots of people coming to check out the sound !

BIGUP VEX´D
