What is 'deep thinking'?
Where is the threshold when you have stopped thinking and have started 'thinking deep'?
Is there a rule on this?
*edit, altered topic* (kind of)
Where do you draw the line on when you believe you have started to think deeply? Im genuinely curious about people's responses. Not trying to bullshit another thread.
I guess its only fair if I share my opinion as well.
I really need to get to bed so I will keep this brief.
For me, I feel that I am as close to thinking deeply the longer I think about the preceeding relationships that lead to the original thought.

Is thinking deep the same as deep thinking?

I think in some ways potentially no. For instance, you could be thinking deeply about how deep a pool of water is.
But is there such thing as "thinking deeply", or is it just a way to be a pretentious dick hole?

If it's the latter, you're definitely asking in the right place.Jhonny2x4 wrote:But is there such thing as "thinking deeply", or is it just a way to be a pretentious dick hole?
Re: What is 'deep thinking'?
I guess in some ways, sure. TBH this thread could have been summed up into a post in the "random thoughts" thread but I thought I may get more opinions this way.cloaked_up wrote:OP is scraping the barrel, IMO

Re: What is 'deep thinking'?
Someone can be deep in thought, but that doesn't necessarily equate to deep thinking. I'd go with the pretentious argument, TBH. Thinking is thinking, some people are just going to put my effort into it?

Re: What is 'deep thinking'?
Thinking about something in a detailed and questioning way would be considered thinking deeply imo

Re: What is 'deep thinking'?
Think it is less depth and more length. Things I've thought about, wrestled with, for years I consider to have been thought about deeply.
I'll share this story: I know of this old federal judge who came off the bench and went into a partnership at a large law firm. They offered him close to a decade's worth of judge salary annually. Well this guy hadn't been in private practice in many many years, and even then I don't think he practiced for long.
Attorneys, generally, have to account for their time in 6 minute increments. On one of his first bills the client and the partnership flipped out. He had 4 hours billed for thinking about the case. The partnership was like, we can't bill time for thinking! Like literally. If some event doesn't occur, a call, a meeting, a document drafted, the time does not exist. Moral: no deep thought allowed.

I am going to restructure this thread's question:
Where do you draw the line on when you believe you have started to think deeply?
Im genuinely curious about people's responses. Not trying to bullshit another thread.

Thanks for both the serious and comical reponses everyone.

Don't ask what you want to do with your life, ask what you can do with your life.

Re: What is 'deep thinking'?
There are some things I spend more time thinking about than others, but I wouldn't say my level of thinking is necessarily deeper than those things I spend less time thinking about.Jhonny2x4 wrote:Where do you draw the line on when you believe you have started to think deeply?
