Client at work made such a stupid, obvious mistake that its really hard to explain what they've done wrong without sounding patronising.

Nah, I have to work with them all the time and if they complain that some jumped-up kid just out of uni is being rude to them it will hinder my aim for a good payrise in April.

Being on the support side of the fence we find ourselves having to break the bad news of other people's stupidity to them all the time - I always try to be polite, but if someone's been an idiot, they've been an idiot... it can be awkward trying to soften the blow, but I figure it's not like Word silently corrects your spelling errors without letting you know you're an idiot... people normally seem relatively pleased to find out something was a stupid mistake rather than something bigger that's broken.

Of course, occasionally it's fucking satisfying...

Nothing gives me more joy in the workplace than correcting a senior salesperson on the difference between markup and margin when they're yelling at me in a meeting as to why my numbers don't match their predictions

I am, but I've got them trained well so if they want stuff done urgently it usually costs them a beer or bottle of wine.

Moving to another country really helped build a better relationship with a lot of people when they weren't crowding round my desk trying to get stuff fast tracked.

See, you represent a type of sales person I have issue with. Sell the stuff then yell at people behind the scenes when you're told what you've sold is impossible

Haha! I'm good at doing this to people! Fuck if I'm buying any wine outside of usual rounds though, so fair play mate. Im lucky though as all my accounts are key stuff like major banks, and usually point out my stuff is worth more then the rest of their projects put together, then if it doesn't I break rank and go direct to head of development and get it expedited.

I made one account manager walk to the local garage and get me a four pack of lager once when we asked me to stay late to work on one of his projects. Truth was I'd already done it but fancied a beer.
