Who used to rave at FWD pre smoking ban?

Post by kudos » Mon Mar 17, 2014 1:20 am

Good time were had by all. Dubstep was known as the FWD sound and there was about 20 people in the club raving to Hatcha and Plastician. Everyone (nearly) was smoking weed!

Smoking ban changed a lot. Fabric was never the same, before you could have a spliff on the dancefloor, sat down in the stairwell and bouncers didn't bat an eye as long as you weren't hocking a bag of pills at people.

Now it's just a constant stream of people jostling to get in and out to the smoking area, vibes have gone. Smaller clubs get it worse, some places ~200 capacity you'll have the dancefloor emptying every 90mins when a new DJ comes on and people all pile outside to have a smoke.

Venues like The Dome for SYSTEM turn a blind eye to smoking inside, but they're few and far between in the UK these days, sadly.

yeah the smoking ban was definitely a good move imho, But the downsides are smelling bare guys peak levels of hygiene. No bunning zoots on the dancefloor. Always smelling the fucking toilets or stale beer (dunno why everywhere didn't start using air fresheners or incense). And like Wub says, the cyclical clearing of the dancefloor.
I make music as Forsaken, you can DL all my unreleased (and a couple released) bits here.

The one time I went to sankeys it smelt like there was a burst sewer pipe in there.

Yeah it's not good really. Would have been a lot better if certain environments were left to be smoker friendly, but required to install better ventilation or something. Clubs reek of sweat, sick and drug arse nowadays.

Here in Poland there's also a smoking ban, but most places I've been to recently definitely don't give a crap. I mean a bouncer goes round every hour or so, but the chances of getting caught are small. Zoot business right in front of the soundsystem - that's the shit!

^ this goes for most of switzerland's clubs aswell, atleast outside of zurich. I once was caught lighting a cig. bouncer said "it's forbidden to smoke in clubs", turned his back on me and left.

I lit a zoot in a club in zurich and the bouncer just told me to go to the smoking area. i was ok with that.

Was it just coincidental timing, or did the smoking ban help push forward the more "bro" like sounds of the genre? It did seem like peeps went from smoking to smashing in pills and at the time it did seem like that was having an impact but maybe it would have happened regardless?

When I was at FWD for Kode9 I saw plenty of people rolling up and smoking on the dancefloor and I think two separate people tried to sell me pills. Have things changed that much really? At the Outlook launch festival at Elephant and Castle the stank was everywhere too

yh at the 'underground' clubs in Birmingham you can mostly smoke indoors without issue although you have to be a bit careful at some

I think it has a lot to do with it.

I reckon it has more to do with the research chems than the smoking ban.

Were the chems about before the ban? One reason I went to FWD and liked dubstep was because of its absent of class A drugs.
