Hello everyone. This is my first post here and I'm very excited to join the community and learn some new things. As part of my first thread, I would like to discuss certain techniques and ways to make a really large, wide sounding chords used in a large verities of music. Right now I have been experimenting with NI massive (although I use other synthesizers as well), and I'm curious how other producers out there form the base structure of their sounds.
Things in particular I'd like to talk about are:
*Waveforms - What do you use, and why?
*Layering techniques - Do you start with your low ends or high ends first? How do you establish a smooth blend?
*Unisono amount - How much is 'too much?'
*Widening the sound with Fx like chorus, EQ's, (possibly) saturation, etc
Feel free to throw out your ideas and brainstorm, people. I don't collaborate with other people enough and I'm always keen on learning new things.
How to make a huge house synth?
Re: How to make a huge house synth?
So one thing I've been trying to emulate is this sound from vexare's 'the silent majority'
For the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiNzRpjNMko
Once you get past the intro you can hear that huge house-y chord synth open up. Once its opened, that's kind of the sound I'm aiming for. It sounds like he's using a low pass filter with low resonance and a maybe a saturator to give it that kind of crunchy bit-styled sound? Any idea what waveforms you think he could be using?

Re: How to make a huge house synth?
i'm not a house guy, and i have no speaker to listen to the video (lol speaker blown), but for any saw house chord stuff, i'll make 2 separate synths, one low, one high- I start with the low.
I'll use 3 oscillators- one white noise, then PWM or Dirty PWM and a Square-Saw for the other 2- add an envelope with really slow attack to one oscillator taking the pitch up 16 cents and to the other oscillator taking it up 24 cents- play with pitch bend. it does cool stuff if done right. really cool.
