Yeah, It would be nice to be able to start a beat somewhere more comfortable or inspiring and then chuck it in the computer. But with the sp can you sequence in the machine and then write the different sequences on the card as there own things? like you'd have your drum loop and your sample loop etc. because if you can do that I'm pretty much sold

If I'm understanding you correctly, no you can't. First of all, I don't use the sequencer at all. Maybe I should, but there is limited polyphony in the 404. So I do microwave style beats. Record kick hat snare onto another pad, then record that pad playing as you play in the music chops or whatever. Then record all to another pad as you do fx passes. It is in no way convenient or a way that you would normally work.

You can't save like individual layered patterns. You can save patterns, but with everything. And you can also play patterns which is really dope, but NOT while you are resampling, which is another reason why I don't use patterns.

I've got to impress this upon you, you will not be using the 404 in a regular comfortable way. You will find yourself doing really odd htings, in odd ways, strung together by workarounds. :)

Soundcloud

I really like some of this guy's beats. A couple are just some of my favorite beats. It takes a special beat maker to really optimize the 404, like a certain perfect casualness. But listening to this, there is so much wrong, that it is all right! But once you know the 404, you'll hear all the work arounds that necessitated this quirky beat.

Hmmmmm idk everything you just said should put me off, but a sixth sense is telling me to do it. I DESPERATELY need something different, production has been a little frustrating lately. A different or even odd approach will either break it or make it worse. But I think I'm willing to take the risk.

That tune is pretty dope though

You know, with hardware, if I've got the money, I'm not too worried about the purchase. If you don't vibe, just sell it along. People been selling and buying musical instruments since the dawn of our time. It is a brotherhood. I buy almost everything used now. I like selling my gear. It really hurts, and maybe you kick yourself for it later, but it is like, here is my girlfriend, take her, I'm done with her, on to the next, but I really think you're going to like her. :) That is a fair bit more misogynistic than I intended, but whatevs.

Just know what you're getting into - a very loose, lofi, played by hand unquantized magic box.

Yes. Sample that Tarzan call, and I'm sure you can do sick things with it in the 404. :)

Here's some strange shit for ya, it's not done in the slightest in terms of arrangement or mixing, but I've been messing with it for awhile and want to see what you guys who are into this shit think.

There is growing evidence that time doesn't exist. Just focus really hard on writing down the serial number on a piece of paper. Do that for a couple of days, then check the paper. You may find the number on there.
