Beginning a night in London

Post by funkywhisky » Wed Mar 19, 2014 11:23 am

I have been going around this idea for months now and came to the conclusion that it is time to do something about it.

Basically for the last year or so I feel that every time I want to go out (unless there's an event (ie Contact, System, etc)) there's not a good constant Dubstep night in London, which I think is nonsense. We have Exile every once in a while, FWD on Thursdays (which dubstep is a bit rare), same for a Deep Medi Skank, DMZ that didn't happen and so.

I don't understand how in the place where the sound was crafted there's no platform to help the hundreds of upcoming DJ's/Producers, to push the boundaries, to keep the fire burning.

Even more, most of the users here are aware how fast all the dubstep records are selling and the presence on the radio/internet is huge. As we know, this is a Soundsystem sound, not a monitor one.

Before any hate starts, I am not doing this so I can play, I don't know if I want to for the moment, I want to do this to create an environment where we can mix an established guy with a 'nobody' with a lot of potential. I am completely sure this would work, of course being a low scale night, but a monthly one at least.

I guess I'm putting this here cause I am searching for like-minded people who would like to contribute or partner in this idea. At the moment I'm doing numbers, analysing different scenarios, etc.

If anyone is interested or have any opinions/ideas please PM me or leave a message.

Cheers man! Will dig into these threads now.

I agree with the venue 'obstacle' - but I am not thinking of a big place but a small one - along the lines of Plan B's basement or a bit bigger.

Good venue, only drama is the long walk up the stairs to go outside for a smoke and the drinks prices are a bit on the pricey side considering you're in Brixton.

If you're after South London, Arch 635 in Clapham North is worth a look.

Yeah, that can be a bit of a turn-off, but I always had a good time there. Arch 635 - looking up! Thanks!

If you can get in at the bussey building in Peckham that's pretty good, they let you bring in a soundsystem as well.

Lots of stairs though.

decent smallish venues off the top of my head

Silver Bullet (N4)
The Waiting Rooms (N16)
Hysteria (E8)
Power Lunches (E8)

give them a bell, silver bullet might be able to sort you out a really good deal. had a few mates put on nights there.
