Only reason I've started cooking for myself & budgeting is I'm saving up to move in with my gf. I realised my food budget was around 50 quid a week and I've got it to around 20 now. Cutting out fizzy drinks as well. roughly 30 quid a month. all adds up.

Does that cost a bomb though?
About £7 a day... £3ish for a hot pastry and a can of fizzy apple juice in the morning, £4 for a baguette and a bag of fruit at lunch.

I could spend a tenner per visit if I wasn't careful, mind. :U:
See, that just seems unnecessarily wasteful.
senseless waste?

And isn't your method "unnecessarily wasteful" of your spare time?

Tbh, it just depends what you're used to... I've bought breakfast and lunch since I started working full time nearly 15 years ago. I budget 50/week for it and always have... normally end up with enough left over for a pint or a few.

I try occasionally to take sandwiches or leftovers, but if I haven't got a proper excuse to go outside for half an hour, I find myself sitting at my desk for the entire day and I'd have a nervous breakdown after a week of that... it's £4 for a lunchtime walk along the riverfront as much as anything.
I'm kind of shocked you spend £50 a week on breakfast/lunch. My weekly food shop costs £40 for me and the Mrs and that includes my lunches for the week.

Why not save the £4 and walk along the riverfront eating a sandwich you made at home?

Might just be me but they're always rank

I don't eat breakfast either at home or work so I save a bit there, probably costs me about £20 a week for lunch

i'd much rather pay the £3 than have to make and eat a horrible, soggy and warm sandwich everyday

My sandwich game is fucking on point to be fair so maybe that's why I don't mind too much.

1hr on a Sunday isn't a waste of spare time to me, compared with the cost/time savings it brings during the week. You need to start thinking smarter, not harder :W:

Fair enough, the outside walk thing I can totally understand. 20mins round the block for me here makes the world of difference to my afternoon mood, I find :)
