MIDI Sprout haha, weird. On the subject of kickstarter, I just ordered a QuNeo (along with a xone k2), hopefully it'll have more practical use than a polyphonic pot plant.

Unnnnhhhhh. Tell me that's not the sexiest compressor you've ever seen. I was reading through the operation manual of his other compressor to poach ideas and spotted that one. Gave me some cool ideas about multiple detector circuits, they both use two RMS detectors and a peak detector. That's similar to something I had considered doing before, now I've got an implementation example.
As well as a sexy faceplate example to pin up. :U:

^ Good call. Shame about their production problems though. The 8200 deserves a mention in a "gear lust" thread, I wouldn't say no to a pair myself. Haven't had much time with the recent Bro Tools plugin to pass any serious judgement but it's working well so far.

Got my eyes on the Waldorf 2-pole filter too. :o

Only had it for a few weeks. Signs are good so far though. I don't use EQ much anyway for day to day stuff cause I don't really need to.

Loads of filters when I'm doin my own thing though probably cause I listen to too much dub and French house.

I sort of regret selling my Waldorf 4-pole filter. The person that bought it got a good deal too.

There's the one Hans Zimmer uses, a 61 key is only 3 grand. 37 key for 2 grand. The only one shipping right now though is the 88 key for $8888.

Redemption: Have recently just figured out the synth that is making all these sounds I like, the korg poly 61, have been researching it, and here it is at 1:01:35. He describes it SO perfectly, it is like vhs synth. FUCK. Okay, top of my gear lust list.

If anyone has any info on the poly 61, sees any used in the states, please let me know.

Synths are one of the few things I'd considered buying internationally from Japan, always get the impression they treat them with a certain amount of reverence.

Don't think I wasn't looking at that, dawg. haha. Fact of the matter, I've got 350$ to spend. That was going to go towards a new pc... but it MIGHT go to your 8 bit sampler, and a poly 61. But the poly's gotta get here for around 2 hundo. Wish the sf gearheads still hung around here, Brooklyn is shit.

Dude, after much long wanderings, the poly 61 has just jumped out of the bushes with raincoat open saying here it is motherfucker! It is THE sound I've been looking for for a long time. I could recreate the 61 sound, with a bunch of dynamics and saturation and distortion etc etc, but I don't want to, I don't want to do that. I want to be in a 3rd gen recorded off of tv onto vhs john carpenter soundtrack, and that is all there is to it. The poly 61 IS that sound. I don't have the space, it may initiate a divorce, but some way, some how, that shit is happening.

Yeah there is something special about the sound of the Poly 61. I'm sure you could try create a sound on something else that sounds like something it would do but everything I've heard from it suggests that it just automatically sounds all hazy and nostalgic no matter what you do. Like it's a matter of working hard to get to a sound vs it directing you towards that sound every-time you use it

New Akai MPC to run Windows Embedded?

We didn't have much of an eye on Microsoft's Build 2014 developer conference last week, but one of the presentations made there might just have pointed towards a new kind of music-making device.

As you can see in the video above, it seems that, thanks to the company's Windows Embedded technology (which enables developers to run a version of Windows in devices that you wouldn't think of as computers), Akai has come up with a prototype of a standalone MPC device that has Microsoft's OS at its heart.

Akai's current flagship MPC Renaissance, of course, is effectively a controller that relies on its companion Mac/PC software in order to run, so going back out of the box would be an interesting move for the company to make.

And this isn't just pie in the sky: Create Digital Music reports that an MPC with an Intel processor running Windows is a very real possibility, with a Numark DJing device supporting similar technology also on the cards.

What this doesn't mean is that you'll have a piece of pad-based hardware that can also run your DAW and plugins, but it does suggest that all-in-one, standalone products might soon represent a viable alternative to the 'hybrid' software/hardware solutions that are currently so popular.
