I used to have a sweet little high string sample, I dont anymore.

My theory isnt great. Maybe C, as its in the middle? The sample I had I could move up & down in the FL piano roll and fit it to what I was doing. It was a great sample, and had a subtle distortion to it, like maybe it was sampled from vinyl.

Im not looking for the same sample, just something like it, suprisingly hard to find a straight sustained string...

I think you would like physical modelling synths they are good at making convincing strings (or just layer it with a real sustained string sound)
