Re: Swamp 81 thread
it was clear from the beginning that swamp would eventually merge into the house/techno continuum. i think the new stuff is just as brilliant and original, though, just more subtle. i myself prefer this subtlety over the blatant kitsch of some of the earlier records.DiegoSapiens wrote:this +1000000Phigure wrote:i would say this has become less and less true as time goes on thosixs wrote:Feels so is a Percy. Say way u want about the rinse show but every release has been unfuckwithable
back when tunes like work them, dont ask dont get, feels so, etc starting popping up in mixes it was a lot more exciting, refreshing, and "woah this shit is really pushing some barriers" compared to stuff like furrball, steam, etc (tracks that bang, dont get me wrong... but i dont think they're anywhere near as brilliant or original as the aforementioned shit)
as agent would say, poor form swamp.

by "kitsch" do u mean "actually interesting" and by "subtle" do u mean "boring and unoriginal"

Re: Swamp 81 thread
Even though I prefer the earlier releases, I agree that subtle approach does have it's benefits. When everything is more immediate the tunes tend to age poorly. These newer tunes don't jump at you like Footcrab or Work Them do but still maintain the labels level of quality.

Re: Swamp 81 thread
lookinh back at the discogs, the releases are actually still pretty decent quality. all the newer stuff still goes off i guess.
i was thinkign about all the swamp gigs over the past year or 2 ive been to, the selection has got more and more bait
work them is still a banger tho. ive never thought footcrab was that great tbh, and now i know a lot more about footwork i think its pretty turd

Re: Swamp 81 thread
tbh I think the amount of attention people pay to the dubs, raves and sets etc ends up having a negative influence on the tunes. When you know everything the releases are a lot less surprising. The Soul What remixes are one of the best things they've put out, but because I listened to the tracks for too long as dubs I doubt I'll ever pick it up, because it feels like I already know too much about it. Nowadays I just check the threads to see new signings and listen when there are pre-orders, that way when I pick up the record I know I'm gonna listen to it regularly and I can allow myself to batter it.

this is p much why i rarely bother listening to the show and almost never check out rips on yt anymore. i'd rather be more or less clueless about the tunes til they get a releaseFunc wrote:tbh I think the amount of attention people pay to the dubs, raves and sets etc ends up having a negative influence on the tunes. Re: Swamp 81 thread
I know I've said it before, but I still wanna see more from Trusta, easily one of the best releases on Swamp for me:

Swamp show should never have gone weekly, that's one of the biggest problems for me. I used to look forward to hearing the new stuff every month, now it's weekly all the tunes just become so so tired after a few weeks, and I really don't care about missing it anymore.

Re: Swamp 81 thread
Yep, the move to weekly rinse was the end of my attention span. No label based show can sustain 2hrs that regularly whilst sticking mostly to the label stable. Esp if yo factor swamps release rate into the matter.
Swamp used to be a quality over quantity approach, but weekly rinse is a contradiction o that.

basically, this:
the early swamp era was like a playground for its producers. they took whatever stood the test of time from that era and incorporated it into a more timeless, more mature form. "numbnut" would be a good example for this development.Func wrote: When everything is more immediate the tunes tend to age poorly. Re: Swamp 81 thread
Numb Nut was MP's first release on Swamp though.

Re: Swamp 81 thread
Would've guessed Joy O tbh. It seems a little dumb to introduce your own tracks as "unknown" on a known radio show tbh. Even worse to announce the label and catalogue number lol

Re: Swamp 81 thread
Based on Pokes' commentary, it's hinted strongly to be a Boddika tune

Re: Swamp 81 thread
Doesn't sound like Boddika. It's a little too straight edge for him imo.
I kind of see it with some of the drum sample selections, maybe a collab?
