RIP Magma's Old Avat- I mean Ultimate Warrior

Post by garethom » Wed Apr 09, 2014 6:35 am

Former WWE Star Ultimate Warrior Passes Away At Age 54

Inducted into the Hall of Fame over the weekend, died yesterday. Screwing.

Heard he was a bit of a cock. Undeniable wrestling G tho.

I don't know what that is, but I'd like to see Magma's old avatar again yeah.

NO FUCKING WAY

That's just fucked my morning RIGHT up. :(

This guy was genuinely my hero as a little kid... I got into wrestling when I was about 8 years old, just as he became Intercontinental champ feuding with Rick Rude and made it through to at least Wrestlemania VI not entirely cottoning on that it was fake; I never believed in Santa, but I'm pretty sure I believed in pro wrestling for at least a year or so. I remember running home from school with a VHS of the title for title match that my older brother's friend had recorded off Sky for me and ran all over the house and garden like a maniac when his music hit at the end. It's still my go-to if I've taken a sick day and need some comfort viewing. I never got Hogan... he was too All-American, too nice, too Disneyfied... Warrior acted like he was genuinely fucked in the head and dangerous. You were just glad he was on your side.

Of course, it turned out he was genuinely fucked in the head, was one of the worst technical wrestlers there's ever been, couldn't dream of carrying a company the way Hogan had and became a bit of a laughing stock before eventually descending into survivalist nutbar territory for several decades, but for about 2 years you couldn't draw a better superhero for a kid... he was the mysterious classical Hero that Vince drew with stars in the intro to Wrestlemania, the natural born monster-heel with Superman's moral compass flushed out of some pre-historic netherworld to be our champion... and I'm glad he finally made some sort of peace with the McMahons before he made his final long, dark journey back to Parts Unknown.

RIP Warrior - you'll always be this poster to me.

Now I definitely want my avatar back! :(

but wrestling is so ridiculous, i watched a clip of the undertaker 'coming back from the dead' when i was high a few weeks ago, and i couldnt stop laughing :cornlol:

Looks like a heart attack, he was walking to his car when he collapsed.

If you're dead at 54 from a heart attack and spent most of your younger years looking like this;

It can't be ruled out.

Likely, I suppose... Warrior was next level even in the 80s when everyone was juiced to the eyeballs.

I just hope it wasn't the excitement/rush of getting back in front of those crowds that finally put paid to his ticker.

I watched it last night with genuine goosebumps and the first thing I read this morning was this thread. His speech was surprisingly decent, but full of "remember me" sentiment. I've never known a celebrity to die at a more appropriate moment; they couldn't have timed this better if McMahon had booked it!

What if wrestling was the only thing that was actually real in this whole charade?
